The first time I chose a Poetry Out Loud poem, in my freshman English class, I felt a connection to literature that I had never felt before. Dissecting, analyzing, and embodying POL poems introduced me to a whole new sector of the arts that would change my life…the art of reciting poetry. My Poetry Out Loud journey has been marked with ups and downs, but as I reflect on the past 4 years of hard work, I am reminded of all the lessons and skills that POL has taught me. It was an incredible honor to represent the entire state of Ohio, on the national stage in Washington DC, an honor that will stay close to my heart for years to come. I have become the third Stallion in school history to win the POL state title, and the first to make the regional finals at the national level. This entire experience taught me that it’s not just about me…it’s about those Ohio Poetry Out Loud students who will come after me, embracing the courage to take someone else’s poetry and turn it into their own. Every practice session with Mrs. Van Arsdale and my mom, and FaceTime calls with my friends, reciting my poems until they could recite them back to me, were pieces of a journey that was slowly unfolding before me. As I step away from the POL stage, after 9 poems, 3 school champion titles, a Central Ohio Regional Champion title, an Ohio Poetry Out Loud State Champion title, and a National Semi-Finalist title, I finish in the top 24/~130,000 highschool students, across the country, who participated in POL this year. I got to close out my Poetry Out Loud journey with a round 3 recitation of “Invitation to Love”, by Paul Laurence Dunbar, who is from Dayton, Ohio. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Thank you, Ohio Arts Council, and Chiquita Mullins Lee, for the hard work that goes into orchestrating a POL competition at the state level. Poetry Out Loud will forever hold a special place in my heart.❣️ by @sarahseidu_

DeSales Marching Band,
This is the hardest goodbye. After 5 years of marching, it’s unbelievable to say that my time on the field has finally come to an end. These years have shaped me in ways I never expected, teaching me discipline, courage, and what it means to dedicate yourself fully to something you love.
I cannot believe how much my life has changed over the past 5 years, all thanks to marching band. Every moment of pushing through the hard, hot band camp practices was worth it, because those days taught me resilience and built bonds I will never forget. My original piccolo section—Ro, Ablerma, Carlos, Zavier, Brandon, Luis, and Karla—changed my entire outlook on band, and the love and laughter we shared shaped who I became in this program. I will always remember every laugh with Jaime and Paa-Awuah during rehearsals; those moments made even the toughest days brighter.
I’m blessed to have had the influences of my previous field commanders driving me through, and every drive down the field was special because of them. I’ll always remember the nervous moments on the sidelines, saying “let’s get it Jeff” to Jeffre, with a small fist bump to calm the nerves.
I have been fortunate enough to have led the Pride of the Stallions this year, through a season that I’m incredibly proud of. Being field commander was truly one of the biggest honors of my life, something I will forever cherish and never take for granted. Looking back, I can only say I am the musician I am today because of people like Mr. Steller, and all of the leaders who have come before me. Their influence, guidance, and belief in me planted seeds that I never knew would grow into so much confidence and purpose.
5 years flew by too quickly, and words can’t describe how blessed I feel to have been a part of a program I get to call my family.
This band has given me friendships, memories, and moments that I will carry with me long after the final note fades. Thank you, marching band, for giving me a home, a voice, and a place where I learned what it truly means to belong. Field Commander 2025, out! by @sarahseidu_

American Legion Auxiliary Buckeye Girls State 2025…
Thank you so much to American Legion Auxiliary Post 171 for sponsoring me to go to Buckeye Girls State. This truly was one of the best experiences of my life. It was such an honor to be elected as a state official and serve the Buckeye Girls State government as a senator. To all of the girls I had the pleasure of meeting, thank you for making this an amazing experience. I love my dearest Kaptur City. Whatever you say, I will do, Senator Seidu out!! #kapturcapture #buckeyegirlsstate by @sarahseidu_
