One military perk on Oʻahu that deserves WAY more attention 👀 If you have access to MCBH, you can take the required boating course, get qualified to operate their rental boats, and rent a boat through the MCCS Marina for a surprisingly affordable day out on Kāneʻohe Bay. And yes… that means you can take it out to the Kāneʻohe Sandbar. 🙌 Rentals are typically in 4-hour increments, and they make it SO easy. They have wheelbarrows to load all your coolers and beach gear down to the boat, plus life jackets for the keiki if you don’t have your own. You can even rent paddleboards or kayaks to bring out with you! And PLEASE bring your snorkel gear. The reef was unreal. We saw three honu, including one of the biggest I’ve seen on island so far. There is seriously so much to do once you’re out there. It’s affordable, you’re on your own schedule, you have plenty of space, and you get to experience one of the most beautiful spots on Oʻahu without booking a big tour. Definitely one of those military benefits worth knowing about while you’re stationed here. SAVE this for your next island day + send it to a military family on Oʻahu who needs to know about it! Hiii, it's been a while since I've done an introduction on my socials! 👋🏼 My name is Sara and I am a real estate agent located on Oahu HI! 🍾 My husband and I have lived here for 8 years! We were an Army family for 10ish years and PCSed to Oahu in 2017! We have one little one (not to little now) named Dotti and she's turning 9 next month 🥹 we also have 2 dogs Mugsy and Mylo! I've been in real estate for 5 years but an entrepreneur for the last 10 years. If you know me I don't like being told what to do... so it's best if I set my own schedule 🫣 My personality is definitely loud, opinionated but when I love I love my people hard.. my humor is pretty dry so just know I'm usually not that serious 🤭 My husband and I have known each other for almost 20 years but have been married 10 years! We are both originally from San Diego so some of that boujee Cali girl has stayed with me throughout the years! 💁🏼‍♀️ I have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of families buy and sell real estate here on Oahu and I take my role in people's home/property journeys so seriously and hope to make their experience smooth, fun and exciting. I truly believe in education vs sales and I hope that shows through my relations! 💕 You'll usually find me with a crispy white wine in hand, some Housewives on in the background, and I love me a dinner party, or social event! If you invite me over just know I'll probably be the last to leave! 😆 Excited to be more active again on social media, if you've known me a while I took a big break after working on social media for 5 years 😄 by @saramartinez_hi
PCSing to Oahu? Before booking your temporary hotel, there’s something you should know! Not every hotel stay will qualify for full Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) reimbursement. Your lodging location, approved rate, availability of government quarters, and required documentation can all affect how much you’re reimbursed. And here’s something else worth knowing: TLA isn’t automatically guaranteed for 30 days. Your eligibility and approved duration depend on your circumstances and local housing office requirements. Before booking, check with your gaining installation’s housing office or finance team so you know exactly what’s authorized. Real excavators for the keiki, Moana at the wave pool, and Santa in an airplane hangar. November on Oʻahu is going to be fun. 🌺 I pulled together a few ideas for the next time someone in the group chat asks, “What are we doing this weekend?” Send it to them now so you actually get something on the calendar. 😂 And if there’s a neighborhood event I missed, tell me! Those are usually the ones I hear about from a friend after they’ve already happened. #OahuEvents #ThingsToDoOnOahu #OahuWithKids #OahuLife by @saramartinez_hi
Date night in Honolulu? I have just the spot. 🍸🤎 Tucked away on the mezzanine level of the TOPA Financial Center in downtown Honolulu, Bar Leather Apron is one of those places you might walk right past if you didn’t know it was there. This intimate, Japanese-inspired cocktail bar is known for its incredible attention to detail, extensive whiskey collection, and handcrafted cocktails. Their signature E Hoʻo Pau Mai Tai is even served with kiawe wood smoke! And did I mention they won the 2023 James Beard Award for Outstanding Bar? 👀 With its dim lighting, cozy atmosphere, and seriously impressive drinks, it’s the perfect excuse to plan a night out. Save this one for your next date night on Oahu! 🍸 by @saramartinez_hi
Buying your first home can feel overwhelming. There are so many decisions, so many unknowns, and a whole lot of emotions. But one day, all of that will be a distant memory, and you’ll just be living life in a place you get to call yours. 🤍 If you’re PCSing to Oahu, send me a DM! I’d love to help you understand the military homebuying benefits available to you and make sure you’re not missing out on anything you’re eligible for. 🏡 by @saramartinez_hi
Your dog has officially entered their paperwork era. 🐶✈️🌺 If you’re PCSing to Oahu with pets, here’s your friendly reminder to start the process EARLY! Hawaii is rabies-free, which means bringing your dog to the island requires some extra planning. We’re talking microchips, rabies vaccinations, blood tests, and paperwork. And trust me, this is not something you want to leave until the last minute! Here’s your PCS pet checklist: ⬇️ ☐ Microchip: Make sure your pet is microchipped and the number is correct. ☐ Rabies vaccinations: Your pet needs at least two qualifying rabies vaccinations, administered more than 30 days apart. ☐ FAVN blood test: Have your veterinarian arrange the required rabies antibody test through an approved laboratory. ☐ 30-day waiting period: After the laboratory receives the blood sample, your pet must complete the required waiting period before arriving in Hawaiʻi. ☐ Original vaccination certificates: You’ll need original certificates with your veterinarian’s signature in ink. Blue ink is a good idea! ☐ Health certificate: Schedule a veterinary appointment within 14 days of arrival and ensure the required tick treatment is documented. ☐ Import paperwork: Complete Form AQS-279 and submit the required documents and payment at least 10 days before arrival to qualify for Direct Airport Release. ☐ Airline arrangements: Confirm your airline’s pet travel requirements, approved carrier, and available pet accommodations. And here’s the good news! With the proper preparation, your pup may qualify for Direct Airport Release instead of an extended quarantine. Military families, SAVE this checklist for your upcoming PCS to Hawaii, and SHARE it with a friend who’s bringing their four-legged family member along! For the complete requirements, visit the Hawaii Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity’s official pet import checklist. by @saramartinez_hi
Halloween is officially over, which means it’s socially acceptable to put up the Christmas tree now, right? 🎄😂 The only problem? When you’re stationed on Oahu, it still feels like the middle of July. Nothing quite prepares you for blasting Christmas music, decorating the tree, and heading to the beach all in the same day. Sure, celebrating Christmas while stationed in Hawaii might look a little different, but dare I say… it’s the best of both worlds?! All the Christmas magic inside without the freezing temperatures outside. Military families, are you team Christmas decorations on November 1st or team wait until after Thanksgiving? 👀🎄 by @saramartinez_hi
If you know, you know. 😂👻 Between surprise PCS orders, packing up your entire life, and starting over at a new duty station, military families have experienced their fair share of jump scares. 💀 Happy Halloween to all my military families! Hope your day is filled with more treats than tricks! 🎃🧡 by @saramartinez_hi
Costumes ready… but where are we trick-or-treating? 🎃🍬 Here are a few Oʻahu neighborhood favorites to help plan your Halloween night: 📍 Mililani Mauka 📍 Hoakalei in ʻEwa Beach 📍 ʻAikahi Park in Kailua 📍 Kāhala 📍 Wailupe Peninsula Participation varies by street, and popular spots can get crowded, plan your route and parking ahead of time! Before your little ghosts head out 👻 ✨ Add reflective tape to costumes or candy bags and bring a flashlight. ✨ Keep costumes short enough to walk comfortably and make sure masks don’t block vision. ✨ Use sidewalks and crosswalks—avoid crossing between parked cars. ✨ Keep younger keiki with an adult and check treats before they dig in. ✨ Visit participating, well-lit homes and keep driveways clear. 🚗 Driving through neighborhoods? Slow down, put your phone away, and watch for excited keiki near parked cars. Save this for Halloween night and send it to your trick-or-treat crew! 🧡 Follow @saramartinez_hi for more Oʻahu activities, neighborhood finds, and island life. Which neighborhood goes ALL OUT?
