POSTS STORIES REELS

Talking about film restoration, (October) i received a good news that this Thai-German film WESTWÄRTS: SÜDOSTASIATINNEN IN BRD (Westwards: Southeast Asian women in West Germany) 1992 - that i had a chance to "restore": digitize, revive, awaken, re-circulate

It has officially returned to where it should belong: @thaifilmarchive - officially included now as part of Thai national heritage canon

From the tape cassette left to dust in storage room of @banyingsocial - to me looking for grant (*without any institution helping me*) to digitize, did subtitles, and colorgrade myself - i am proud that in a way... i brought the film back home. Stories of Siriporn, Rangsima, Usa, and Susanne and Gabi that met in 80s - stories of me tracing down all of them, reconnecting dots, you can believe how much this journey is

This dream-lineup took place at Thai Film Archive in March this year

If curious, you watch recorded talk on Vimeo of REMAKE frauen film tage frankfurt @kinothek_asta_nielsen - link in bio (see last slides) happening December 2025 thanks @babicka_g

Thanks @kongrithdee for opening up the door and amazing Thai translation of subtitles, and team of thai archive that keeps doing amazing work

and more archival materials from @qi.archive and queer museum hanoi

and the fact that i was refused at Austrian border to travel there is a proof why transnational project like this matters: a platform for two geographies (Southeast Asia and Southeast Europe) can engage in dialogues

- we are talking about borders that still nowadays discriminated non-EU migrants: from the Vietnamese that crossed the ocean, to Yugoslavian guest workers in West Germany - to Kosovars who could not cross any border beyond Balkans - until recently. Lets together break down what divides us

Photos by @plainvomit and @nitadeda thank you so much 😘😘

From the Schwules Museum in Berlin to Project Space Sekhmet in Prishtina, in collaboration with curators Ferdiansyah Thajib, Sarnt Utamachote, Thao Ho, and Hai Nam Nguyen, brings Paths with No Maps - an exhibition connecting queer histories, artistic practices, and lived experiences across Southeast Asia, Germany, and Prishtina.

Partly inspired by a little-known manuscript titled Djalan Sampoerna (The Perfect Path), written by Soetjipto, a young man living at the margins of 1920s colonial East Java (Indonesia), this exhibition, Paths with No Maps, traces queer ways of being and becoming in Southeast Asia that resist easy translation or definition. Soetjipto’s manuscript offers a raw and intimate account of a life marked by same-sex desire and gender nonconformity, alongside poverty, spiritual longing, and a search for belonging under colonial rule.

New interview! 🌼 To celebrate the 20th anniversary of XPOSED Queer Film Festival Berlin in May, Elena del Olmo Andrade talked to filmmaker and curator Sarnt Utamachote about the intrinsic virtuous disposition of the short format to reflect, expand, and position queerness outside of a vacuum.

The images of queer and non-queer older people who died of AIDS already carry their stories within them – as traces that continue to resonate in their absence. Often created as home videos, educational films, or advertisements, these fragmentary archives leave behind “unfinished” narratives.

💞 “Archive of the Present 2” continues this impulse by engaging with, honoring, and rethinking such legacies. Curated by Sarnt Utamachote (@sarntolstice).

🗃️ Archives are a source of inspiration – treasures that can cast a new light on the present. At Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg, curators present their own personal approaches and questions.

In the second part of this team interview, we shift the focus from introductions to process, where conversations unfold around choice, instinct, and responsibility. The curators of XPOSED reflect on the selection process, navigating personal taste and collective vision.
