don't wanna bonk this half marathon?? fuel up⬇️

- 2-3 days before the race: carb load with 7-10g of carbs per kg of body weight, stick to lower fibre carbs and reduce your protein and fat intake a little to allow for more carbs (see my full carb load with meals + g of carbs on my 'carb load' highlight'

- 2-3 hrs before race (morning of): carb rich breakfast that you know digests well for you + at least 500ml fluid, ideally electrolytes (I love @ciranutrition electrolytes - code 'SAVOURWITHSARAH' to save $$$)

- 15-30 mins before race: 20-30g top up of simple carbs (e.g. a gel/chew, candy, sports drink, honey)

- during the race: 30-60g simple carbs every 30-45 minutes + water to thirst + electrolytes

Most importantly, make sure you've practised these fuelling strategies and nothing new on race day!🏃🏻‍♀️✨

dietitian runner🤝a proper carb load

with fall racing still in full swing, I hope this can help those who have yet to run their half-, full- or ultra-marathons but SAVE this one for next racing season too🤸🏻‍♀️

KEY TAKEAWAYS:
🏃🏻‍♀️3+ day carb load = 7-8g/kg of body weight
🏃🏻‍♀️1-2 day carb load = 10-12g/kg of body weight
🏃🏻‍♀️easily digestible carbs (which includes beverages & candy!)
🏃🏻‍♀️lower fibre carbs the day before and morning of
🏃🏻‍♀️biggest meal at lunch not dinner the day before

HAPPY CARB LOADING!!!
