SDG12- Responsible Consumption, Production

Achieving economic growth and sustainable development requires that we urgently reduce our ecological footprint by changing the way we produce and consume goods and resources.

Agriculture is the biggest user of water worldwide, and irrigation now claims close to 70 percent of all freshwater appropriated for human use.

The efficient management of our shared natural resources, and the way we dispose of toxic waste and pollutants, are important targets to achieve this goal.
Encouraging industries, businesses and consumers to recycle and reduce waste is equally important, as is supporting developing countries to move towards more sustainable patterns of consumption by 2030.

#TBT to 1974 in a village in Burkina Faso where these women marched long distances to fetch water from a common well.
2.6 billion people have gained access to improved drinking water sources since 1990, but 663 million people are still without. There is sufficient fresh water on the planet to achieve clean, accessible water for all. But due to bad economics or poor infrastructure, every year millions of people, most of them children, die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene.

The #GlobalGoals for sustainable development, agreed by countries at the #UnitedNations last year, aim to ensure access to water and sanitation for people everywhere by 2030. 📷 UN Photo/Ray Witlin
