“You are what your record says you are”
- Bill Parcells

First 40 of 162 games already down! A lot already packed into this season. Good stretches, rough ones, questions about how good this team really is…and somehow the belief around this city still feels steady. 24-16, sitting in first, and the Faithful keep showing up like they always do.

That’s probably been my biggest takeaway documenting all of this so far. Not just the baseball, but the people around it. The routines, the conversations walking into the park, familiar faces showing back up series after series, and the way Petco settles into itself once the gates open.

Somewhere along the way, it stops feeling like just covering games and starts feeling more like documenting a season of life in San Diego.

Looks like I already caught my last home game for a while. Heading back out to work soon, so I’ll miss the next couple months of baseball at Petco. Tough timing, but it’ll make getting back that much better.

Still a long road ahead for this team…Excited to see where it goes from here!

Padres are 7-0, Jackson Merrill just got the bag 💰, and Petco? Straight up beaming, from Gallagher to home plate!! 🙌

San Diego’s got sunshine, swag, and a ballclub that’s clearly not messing around this season! 💪🤎💛

Skipped work, played hooky, showed up for birthdays…whatever it took, the #FriarFaithful made sure this one felt personal!

You feel that, mlb? That’s the brown and gold heating up early 🔥🤎💛 Keep doubting, San Diego’s just getting going, #LFGSD!!👏🙌🤙

The last roll ✌️

Another matchday, another roll of film 🎞️

I’ve been having some “fun” shooting an old Yashica rangefinder with some Kodak Portra 400 and Ektar 100 at recent San Diego FC matches. It’s definitely not the most practical setup for photographing a supporters’ section, but I’ve managed to come away with a handful of frames I’m happy with.

As much as I enjoy shooting film, it’s hard not to get frustrated thinking about the shots I’ve missed. Manually pulling focus on moving subjects, dealing with limited light, and having just 36 exposures to work with can be a pain. Especially when you see a moment unfolding right in front of you and know exactly how you want to capture it, but the camera just can’t quite keep up. And with what film and developing cost these days, every missed frame stings a little more 😂

One thing I’ve never really understood is the idea that shooting film somehow makes someone more of an artist or a professional than shooting digital. Photography is photography. You’re still working with light, composition, shadows, and trying to recognize those little moments worth preserving. The tools and processes might be different, but the art of capturing a moment and telling a story through an image doesn’t change depending on what’s in your hands. Personally, for the kind of documentary work I enjoy, modern digital cameras are pretty hard to beat.

Anyway, here’s a few more frames from the stands. The people, friendships, traditions, and all the little moments that continue to make this supporter culture something special.

Back at Snapdragon tonight as SDFC takes on Houston!

Well, that’s baseball. One day you’re dreaming about a World Series, and the next you’re wondering how many days until pitchers and catchers report…or if there’s even a 2027 season.

Before we put another season in the books, I wanted to take a moment to thank the Friar Faithful.

I’ve spent the last few years wandering around Petco with a camera, trying to capture a little bit of what makes this place and the people who fill it so special. Along the way, I’ve met some incredible people, heard stories about generations of Padres fans, and photographed moments that have very little to do with what happens on the field.

This year was no different. From those ordinary summer afternoons to the absolute madness of October, you guys gave me more moments worth remembering than I could ever fit into a photo album.

I know we’re all disappointed with how things ended. I am too. But looking back through everything I’ve photographed this season, I’m reminded that there’s a whole lot more to being a Padres fan than the final score.

So thank you to everyone who’s stopped to say hello, shared a story, let me take their photograph, followed along with this little project, or simply made Petco the incredible place it is.

It’s been a hell of a summer, San Diego. I’m already looking forward to doing it all over again!

See you in Peoria🤞🤎💛

No complicated math tonight….Win and we get another one. Lose and the season is over.

The Padres are back home at Petco with their season on the line. No roofs to blame tonight, no excuses left to make. Just a lineup that needs to hit the damn baseball😂

Fill the place. Get loud. Keep the faith🙌🙏🤞

Gotta keep the faith and get a win tonight!!

The signs are made, the Faithful are ready, and we’re still playing baseball in October!!🤎💛

After an unforgettable couple of nights at Petco, the Padres are in Milwaukee tonight to start the NLDS against a Brewers team that finished with the best record in baseball.

We’ve seen what this team can do against Milwaukee. Now it’s time to do it when it matters most!

Game 1. Let’s keep this thing going, San Diego🙌💪

If I had to choose one frame from the thousands I made over the last two nights to sum up this series, this might be it!

Morejon on the mound, Pete Crow-Armstrong at the plate, and the Friar Faithful packed into the stands behind them. It’s one moment from one at-bat, but looking at it afterward, there’s a lot of the series in this photograph.

I don’t shoot these games with the big glass you normally see lining a photo well. My eye tends to work wider anyway. I’m always looking for angles where I can layer a few things into the same frame and let them tell the story together, rather than isolating one player or one moment.

That’s what I like about this one. Morejon represents a Padres bullpen that kept shutting the door. PCA is part of a Cubs lineup that came into San Diego as the highest-scoring offense in baseball and managed one run over 18 innings. And right there behind both of them is Petco, packed with the Friar Faithful who were loud and present for damn near every pitch of the series.

There were bigger moments over those two nights, and plenty of photographs that probably look more like a traditional baseball photo. But this is the kind of frame I’m always searching for. There’s more than one story happening inside it, and together they tell you a little more about what it actually felt like to be there.

On to Milwaukee!!

I’m still trying to find the words for this one…and the time to edit everything 🤣

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph a lot of incredible nights at Petco, but last night felt like one of those nights we’ll be talking about around here for a long time.

Tatis sent the first pitch of October into the seats. Manny followed. Michael King flirted with history. The place just kept getting louder. And then, after nearly two years away, Joe Musgrove walked out of that bullpen to finish it in front of his hometown.

8–0. The largest postseason shutout in Padres history. But the box score still doesn’t really explain what it felt like inside Petco.

Fortyseven plus thousand people on their feet, towels in the air, complete strangers losing their minds together. Everywhere I pointed the camera there was another moment I wanted to remember.

We didn’t just watch Padres history last night. We got to be a part of it!!

And somehow, that was only Game 1

See you tonight San Diego🤎💛
