Unreal night.
Always had this image in my head, but never thought it would come true. Sometimes things happen when you least expect it.
I cannot describe the feeling of what it was like to stand there all alone with my hands frozen, but it was worth it.
In the frame: the magnificent Dolomites under the aurora borealis.
Something you really only see once in a lifetime.
Thanks to all who made this possible.

The biggest mistake I see visitors making at Seceda is going in the morning. Everyone’s trying to catch the same gondolas, so it ends up feeling like an amusement park.

PRO TIP: for the least crowds, reserve the 3:00pm (or later) gondola up instead. The last one descends at 5:30pm, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the view in a relaxed, unhurried way.

📌Save this for your Dolomites trip

📍 Seceda, Dolomites 🇮🇹

A view that feels straight out of a postcard. 🏔️✨
We took the cable car up to Seceda (€74 round trip). Definitely worth it for these views. 🤍

💡 Tip: Pre-book your cable car tickets and go early to avoid the crowds.

Seceda 🏔️

Those peaks are called the Odle. It’s the Ladin word for needles, which you get straight away when you see them lined up like that. The whole area is part of the Puez-Odle nature park, one of the nine UNESCO areas in the Dolomites.

The strange bit is that all of it used to be underwater. Coral reefs on the floor of a tropical sea, about 200 million years ago. Now it’s standing up at 2,519m.

We took a second lift for another view over the valley and then had lunch at Baita Sofie, (@baita_sofie)2,410m up. A woman called Sofie built it back in 1967 and the family still runs it, her son and his wife now. We sat outside with the Odle right in front of us.

Also worth knowing: Reinhold Messner grew up just the other side of these peaks and learned to climb on them. First person up Everest without oxygen and the first to do all fourteen 8,000m peaks. Started here.

Welcome to …
📍Seceda, Italy 🇮🇹

One funicular ride from Ortisei and 74 euros later you are at one of the most beautiful peaks in Italian dolomites. And here you immediately forget about the price paid for the lift.

I tried to focus on the details that make this place so special, be it animals and birds, ski lifts with the peaks behind or lots of flowers. Such a happy day! 💚
