POSTER DESIGN FOR THE MOVIE „PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK“ by Lina Disciplina

The Atlantic published a recommendation of David Sims on Halloween: "There’s a „fun category of films that play with suspense, mystery, and creepiness without sowing constant fear; these stories unsettle but aren’t primarily made to distress and disturb viewers," He suggested not-too-scary films for people who don’t like horror.
One of these is Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975, directed by Peter Weir).
"Like so many of the best non-horror horror films, Weir’s Australian masterpiece is memorable because it revolves around something unseen. Set in 1900, it follows the disappearance of several schoolgirls while on a picnic. The longer Weir’s tale goes on, the more the efforts to solve the mystery fail, which only fuels the dread around what might have happened."

This one of these pictures that stick in mind. @polanco_emmanuel illustrated it for The Southern Poverty Law Center.

Since the Jan. 6 insurrection in 2021, the hard right has been actively organizing by normalizing hate, legitimizing extremism, and spreading conspiracy theories to undermine inclusive democracy. In its annual Year in Hate & Extremism report the SPLC still identified 1,263 hate and antigovernment groups throughout 2025. This slight decline in the number (1,430 formal groups in 2023) is not an all-clear.

ANIMATION OF THE WEEK
Lina Disciplina created this animation with the help of talented animator Vykintas Labanauskas for the perfumery Crème de la Crème. Inspired by the vibrant energy of Rio’s carnival, she created a series of illustrations exploring movement, sensuality and spectacle. Flowing feathered headdresses, expressive figures and warm shades of red, orange and brown translate the fragrance’s spicy, smoky character into a bold visual narrative.

Today, we came across an illustration by Francesco Bongiorni that he created some time ago as part of a campaign for the @felixburdastiftung . The campaign encourages people to get screened for colorectal cancer.
The idea was to illustrate situations in which death would be unavoidable — unlike colorectal cancer, which can be treated very successfully when detected at an early stage.

Even before illustrator and designer Lina Disciplina joined us, she impressively demonstrated how well her illustrations work on a massive scale. She was the illustrator responsible for painting the Smiltynė ferry. 🚢

The clever twist: Right at the waterline, she placed fishing and rowing scenes in such a way that as soon as the ferry sets sail, the waves bring the illustrations to life. The result is a magnificent piece of art that interacts harmoniously with its environment.
