A garage isn’t overflow. It’s the room that gives the rest of the house its space back.

Anatomy of a Room, No. 01 — Darien, CT. Epoxy floors, custom cabinetry, and a designated place for every category: boots and coats out of the mudroom, kitchen backstock behind closed doors, hardware and batteries out of the junk drawer, holiday decor on motorized lifts that come down at the push of a button.

Swipe for all thirteen.

It’s speakeasy season… by @settled.home

Four closets, but you can only choose one. The Garden Room, The Walnut, The Jewel Box, or The Gallery? by @settled.home

Visual clutter works on the nervous system even when no one is looking at it directly. Every unfinished surface is a small open task.

The work is about more than how a room looks. It is about how a home feels to the person living in it at the end of a long day. by @settled.home

Beautiful cabinetry deserves a plan to match. Here, every door opens onto one part of his wardrobe: shirts in one bay, jackets and trousers in the next, weekend clothes in a third. Knits are folded by color, with the carry-on on the top shelf, ready for the next trip. Shoes sit in clear bins whose lids double as a shelf, so a second row fits in the same space. And one drawer holds the go-to essentials, from shoe care to cufflinks, each in its own compartment.

A closet that’s easy to read in the morning and easy to keep that way.

The bar, from a Brooklyn to Nashville move. Unpacked and set behind glass, as though it had always lived here.

Getting settled is deeply personal, and the team that makes it happen in Nashville is led by two of the most trusted hands a home could be in, our directors Emily Shreve and Emily Walton.

For anyone newly settled in Nashville, a few of Emily and Emily's favorites:

Coffee: Crema @cremacrema
Dinner: Folk @goodasfolk and City House @cityhouse_nashville
Bakery: Perenn @perennbakery
Shops: FLWR Shop @flwrshop, Ranger Station @rangerstation.co , White's Mercantile @whitesmercantile by @settled.home

Functional decor is the first thing people see, before a single drawer or cabinet is opened. We style a home with what is already in it: the books you read, the platters you serve on, the bags you carry, the supplies your kids reach for every day.

Now and then we source a piece to fill a gap or finish the story. But mostly, what’s on the shelves is your life, arranged so it can be seen and appreciated. by @settled.home

Some vignettes from a kitchen we’re still thinking about…

Most homes have more storage than they let on. The floor beneath hanging clothes, the ceiling of the garage, the back of a closet door, and the few inches beside a range or refrigerator.

Here are seven places we put found space to work. by @settled.home

Her closet, at the end of a Brooklyn-to-Nashville move managed by us. A whole life, carried from one city and Settled into the next.

A well-planned kitchen works in zones: one for cooking, one for prep, one for serving, one for stocking, one for the morning cup.

This one was the last room in a much larger project. We moved this family from Brooklyn to Nashville while they were away for the summer, and every piece you see here was packed in one city and placed in the other.
