As we enter the New Year, we are really excited to share with you our venue and dates for 2026!
.
The venue is the Reabrook Club, which is just opposite Cineworld. It's a lovely space with a bar, parking and on the ground floor, so accessible.
.
Our launch is on the 19th of April, with the club nights being on (mostly) the 3rd Sunday of the month, from 7pm. To make sure we don't blow our budget, for our first year we will have two guest nights, with the aim to increase to four a year. There will also be a workshop run by the guests in the afternoon.
.
The other nights will be floor performers nights, where performers will be picked from the room to do a 2-song set. Booking won't be required for these but if someone has come from a long way, we would of course try and make sure they have a spot. Entry will be £3 but there will be a membership option to make it £2.
.
As well as music, there'll be poetry, monologues, news and lots of other Folky fun!
.
Full dates are on the poster, the Severn Folk calendar and down below. We are so excited to launch in just a few months and start to build our new Folk community together. Happy New Year everyone!

It is just over a month to go until Folk, Bouzouki and Bellowhead legend and fellow Salopian @bk_excess comes and performs for us at Severn Folk. What is also really exciting is that Benji will be running a Bouzouki workshop for intermediate-ish players in the afternoon. Benji has recorded a short video describing what he’ll be covering in the workshop, so have a watch, grab your Bouzoukis, get them tuned to GDAD and grab your tickets for both the workshop and the concert now!

Tickets for the concert and/or the workshop can be purchased from our TicketSource page (link in bio).

If you are a Severn Folk member, you will need to fill in the members booking form on our website instead (link also in bio!) by @severnfolk

Our next club night is this Sunday (18th October) and we have a really packed lineup for you this month, with performances from Nancy Ketchen, Bridging The Gap, Ruth Fisher and Harry Hewitt, Ann and Dave Reader and @melissasevern7 Melissa Severn, as well as performances from regulars the Reabrook B Band, the Original Shrewsbury Folk Club and the Session Bands.
.
This is a normal floor performer club night (although no open spots this month, sorry!), with our normal entry price of £3 (with discounts for members and performers). Doors open at 6:30 and everything starts at 7, with the venue as usual the lovely Reabrook Sports and Social Club. We really look forward to seeing you on Sunday! by @severnfolk

Did you go to the @shrewsburyfolkfestival this year? Then we want to hear your highlights!
.
We are looking for Shrewsbury Folk Festival goers to share their highlights of this year’s festival with us for our highlights article on the blog, whether this was your first year or you’ve been coming since it was the Bridgnorth Folk Festival! Contributions don’t need to be very long, just however much you feel like writing, you don’t need to be a professional writer and we would please ask that you don’t use AI.
.
We would also be grateful for any pictures you took that could accompany your highlights on the article, although this is not necessary.
.
All contributions will of course be fully credited and you would have your own named individual section in the article. If you would like to see some examples of how your highlights (and the article in general) would be laid out, then you can read our article of the previous festival’s highlights on our blog (link in bio).
.
If you would be interested in contributing, then please get in touch by messaging us here or through our contact form on the website. by @severnfolk

A huge thank you to everyone who came to Severn Folk Club’s very first guest concert night! It was a wonderful evening, we were so lucky to have Lauren South as our first guest. She delighted us all with a mix of her own compositions and traditional songs on the fiddle, tenor guitar and shruti box, all accompanied by her beautiful voice! She had also led a brilliant beginners violin workshop in the afternoon, which got the participants both plucking and bowing together by the end!

Also adding to a lovely evening was music from Nancy Ketchen and Chris Bartram, the Reabrook B Band and the Balfolk and White Horse Session Bands.

The folk club had some wonderful donations for the raffle this month again, including from The Greenhouse Cafe, La Lanterna Restaurant, Julie Mortimer - Images of nature and Nancy Ketchen.

So a huge thank you to them and everyone who donated prizes.

And lastly, another huge thank you to the Reabrook Sports and Social Club and to our wonderful team of volunteers who make the club nights happen and give their time and skills so generously.

Can’t wait for our next club night, which will be on the 18th of October – this is a floor performers night with normal prices (£3 with discounts for members) and we have a wonderful lineup of pre-booked floor performers for you (no open spots are available this month, sorry!)

With Mind The Gap, Melissa Severn, Archie Bielby, Ruth Fisher & Harry Hewitt and Nancy Ketchen performing for us, as well as the usual performances from the Reabrook B Band, the Original Shrewsbury Folk Club and the Session Bands.

Our next guest night will be with Benji Kirkpatrick on the 15th of December, with a bouzouki workshop in the afternoon. Links to buy tickets can be found in our bio, with a separate link for the booking form to buy the discounted rate members tickets. by @severnfolk

Even though our next club night on Sunday (20th September) is different to our usual club nights (being our first ever guest night!), we will still be reading out the local Folk news, so if you have anything you would like us to announce, please get in touch.
.
You can reach us either via sending a message here, commenting underneath or through our Contact Us page on our website (main website link in bio).
.
If you still haven’t got your ticket to our guest night with @laurensouthmusic next Sunday, either for the Scratch Fiddle Workshop in the afternoon (for absolute beginners, including those who have never touched a Fiddle before!) or the concert in the evening, then it’s still not too late! Head over to our Ticket Source page or our Members Booking Form if you’re a Severn Folk member (both links in bio) to grab yours now! by @severnfolk

It's this time of year again: September of Sound!

Time for a music-packed month with loads of briefs to write songs and/or tunes to!

This September of Sound, you’ll be writing four songs or instrumentals for your own EP! There will be four briefs to write to (one every week starting from today) to help kick-start your creativity but open enough to still be very much your own piece.

There is a post on the @severnfolk blog with all of the details and briefs for anyone who understandably doesn't want to have a social media account to join in (link in bio and you can share any pieces you've written for the challenge in the Shrewsbury Songwriters Facebook group, using the hashtag #septemberofsound and tagging our Instagram page @shrewsburysongwriters (only if on Instagram of course!) and/or sending a YouTube/SoundCloud etc. link across to us via the Severn Folk Contact Us website page.

The first brief is detailed below and on the photo attached, with the other three briefs being posted on the 16th, 23rd and 30th of September.

Good luck, remember to share and even if you haven't ever written music before, just give it a go!

Matt x

Due to problems with our card machine, our Folk Club this Sunday (the 16th of August) will be CASH ONLY. We also won’t be able to add any new members this month but will be back on track next month, just in time for our brilliant first guest performer Lauren South on the 20th of September (tickets for both her concert and her beginners fiddle workshop are available from our TicketSource page or through the booking form on our website for members – link in bio). Drinks at the Reabrook Social and Sports Club will still be able to be bought by either cash or card.
.
We’ve got a load of great performers for you this month and a new surprise so make sure you don’t miss it!
.
Here’s a reminder of the prices:
Normal Entry: £3
Member or Performer Discount: £1 off each (a Performer Member entry is £1)
Raffle Tickets: £1 for 1 or £5 for a strip of 5. by @severnfolk

Just a reminder to everyone that there is NO Severn Folk Club today (19 July 2026) due to the world cup. Our next one is on the 16 August 2026 with a bonanza group of floor performers (there won't be any open spots in August, as we've had to fit all the pre-booked performers from both July and August in!) by @severnfolk

Antony Titley (from local Folk band @twoblankpages_music and Severn Folk Club’s own Reabrook B Band) recently gained a new instrument (and a new challenge) in the form of an Irish Bouzouki. Now, after managing to keep it a secret from the rest of the band, Antony has shared his experiences of noodling with this “pear-shaped instrument”…

Have you ever fancied having a go at the Fiddle? Well here’s your chance! For Severn Folk Club’s night on the 20th of September, our guest artist @laurensouthmusic is running a Scratch Fiddle workshop for us in the afternoon before her concert later in the evening. You don’t need to have picked up the Fiddle before or even own one, as Lauren will be bringing several instruments with her. Lauren will go from the very beginning and you'll be playing simple tunes before the end.
.
The workshop will run from 3:30-5pm at our usual home of the Reabrook Sports and Social Club, Scott Street, Shrewsbury, SY3 7PX. Places will be £11 or £10 for members and there is a special bundle price for anyone wanting to go to both Lauren’s workshop and concert of £18 or £16 for members.
.
You can book your place from our TicketSource page (link in bio). Members will need to book their tickets through the member’s booking form (drop us a message for the link) or on a club night to get their discount. by @severnfolk
