Impromptu #4
Signal series
Acrylic on canvas
11 × 14 in.

(Sold)

Electric orange, deep greens, and unruly black lines create tension between spontaneous marks and one unapologetically bold block of orange.

Small in size, but definitely not quiet.

Shear, in situ.

Color, movement, interruption. And then the moment a painting begins a life beyond the studio.

There’s something especially lovely about a painting finding its way home with people you know.

I delivered Shear today to a couple very dear to me—one of whom I’ve had the pleasure of watching grow up from the time he was small. Knowing that he and his beautiful wife chose this piece, and that it will now be part of the life they’re building together, makes this one feel especially meaningful.

Shear is all movement and interruption—deep blues sweeping through fields of orange, with flashes of red and texture breaking the surface. A painting about energy, tension, and where one force meets another.

So happy where this one has landed. ❤️

Helix Becoming, up close.

These are some of the moments where the painting was made rather than planned.

It’s one thing to see a painting, hanging on the wall . It’s another to move closer and see that the surface tells another story: dragged color, erased passages, small interruptions, edges that only partially resolve.

Some paintings tell you where they belong.

Helix Becoming was created specifically for this corner of our 1900 home—at the foot of the spiral staircase, beside an original stained glass door with its original glass hardware.

There’s something deeply satisfying about placing new work into an old space. The architecture brings history. The painting brings a new conversation.
