I told my publisher that it was super important to me that this book come out before the election. I knew Trump would beat Biden and I wanted this resource available when the moment came. For a hot minute I dared to hope Kamala could win. Here we are. My offering for you today is my book. It is joyful and hope filled. It is a handbook for community organizing. It is a toolkit for strategic planning and preventing burnout. It is an expansive way of thinking about activism. It is what I could do to support my community, knowing this moment was likely. I hope you will read it. I hope it brings you some peace and mostly I hope it gets you turning this rage and despair into action when you are ready.

What a day! 5am to 9pm. So many voters. And WHAT AN AMAZING OUTCOME! First we celebrate. Then we gear up for what’s next and needed. Well, first I sleep. Then I celebrate. Then I gear up again. lol.

The Downey’s came to Chicago and we tore it up. We brought them to Wisconsin for the first time. We went to @marscheesecastle and @applehollerwi for the full WI starter experience. Today we visited the @obamalibrary and it was even more incredible than we anticipated! A wonderful few days together in my city. Tip: some weekdays the museum has tickets even if it says sold out. We never expected to be able to get into the museum today. It felt like magic when we did! #chicago by @shannondowney2

Work trip turned road adventure with @chaiwolfman ! Went to Bloomington, Indiana to speak to the Monroe County Public Library staff. We added in some thrifting, campus walks, dinner at Little Tibet, and a trip to the art museum. We stumbled on a tribute to Captain Janeway! So of course I had to get a cup of coffee in her honor. I bought a beautiful vessel that I think would be a great urn for my ashes in the event I die before I have hand woven one. Chai did not like that (first pic) and then we spent time researching fat to ashes ratios to see if I would fit. Lol. It’s up for debate. Feeling real grateful for my life. by @shannondowney2

Highlight of my summer was last night! @officialtlc @saltnpepaofficial and @envoguemusic icon tour! Those women looked amazing and sound amazing and they are still throwing down moves. Every muscle in my body hurts and I have no voice. EPIC. by @shannondowney2

Took a framily vacation to Door County and then to the Apostle Islands. Penny is 82 and kayaking through the caves was on her bucket list so naturally that had to happen. It was a literal perfect kayaking day. We topped it off by jumping off the cliffs into Lake Superior. We biked, swam, walked, antiqued, and ate so much ice cream. We saw lots of amazing art and went to a dedicated dark sky park and saw many shooting stars. We detoured to a tiny cemetery to try to find Rita’s grave. That’s a whole other story I’ll share later. It was a lovely week! #doorcountywi #apostleislandsnationallakeshore #kayak by @shannondowney2

Do you remember Fred A Stair?! The baby kitty we found under the stairs in Atlanta when I was traveling in the RV?! Look at her now!!! She’s 5! She’s so tiny and so naughty and I love her. She is well loved and raising hell. #catsofinstagram by @shannondowney2

Spent the weekend playing tour guide. In reverse order, we went blueberry picking in Indiana then headed to New Buffalo, Michigan for lunch and Michigan City on the way home for beach time. Yesterday, we did an architectural boat tour, explored downtown, and hit the taste of chicago. I will now sleep for 24 hours. Summertime in the Midwest is pretty awesome. Glad these two could come visit. Especially since it’s 109 degrees in Utah today. It was a much more reasonable 85 here. #chicago #indiana #michigan #daytrip #summeradventures by @shannondowney2

My birthday was just perfect. 48 is going to be great! A walk to the Montrose bird sanctuary that included a picnic and time spent sketching and water coloring. Then an evening of food and fam including the birthday song by cello! We made the best s’mores! Peanut butter cups drowning in marshmallow fluff. Will be doing that again. Thoughtful gifts and a gorgeous and tasty cake. Two thumbs up. No notes. Thank you @chaiwolfman @mandiwolfman @violetwolfman @autumoose and @jenn_sutherland and everyone who sent messages and cards. I felt very loved. by @shannondowney2
