My sewing story!

2025 was the year I returned to sewing. After a 15 year hiatus, something in my creative mind awakened and years of ideas I suppressed bubbled to the surface and I found myself sewing 17 projects in less than a year!

I hope you enjoy this little trip down memory lane. I have a feeling 2026 is going to be another fun year of creating and making!

Hi!! Every so often I think it’s a good idea to reintroduce myself. I’m Shannon! I’m a wife and mom of two living near the shores of Lake Erie!

As you can tell from my reel I love sharing outfits, coastal living, blue and white decor, and the occasional sewing project. Recently I’ve gotten into shopping second hand in an effort to help the environment!

A few more fun things about me:
> I love the Great Lakes and believe they should be preserved and cherished for generations to come.

> I studied business (marketing) and fashion in college and went to fashion school after college to study fashion design and merchandising. My passion was sustainable fashion and I hoped to find a way to make fashion design, manufacturing and production more ethical and less harmful to the planet.

> I’ve lived in NYC, Savannah, and London before settling in my home state of Ohio.

> I have an activist heart and spent almost a decade working for nonprofits and the government. I will not shy away from fighting for human rights for ALL people.

> In November 2024 I embarked on a clean eating journey where I prioritize whole foods that nourish my body. Sometimes I share that journey and recipes!

> I’m a huge history buff and love reading anything and everything about WWII and The Kennedy’s.

> My hobbies include sewing, reading, music, and collecting coastal art.

> I love South Korean culture and love watching k-dramas and listening to BTS.

> I’m passionate about supporting small businesses and American made, but I also understand we live in a global economy and I love supporting artisans from around the world.

> One of my dreams someday is to own property in my favorite country: Scotland! Or a lake house on Lake Erie would also suffice! 😆

Tell me some things about you in the comments below! And THANK YOU for being here. 🫶

Hawai’i: you will have my heart forever 🫶

I can’t believe a year has already passed since our trip to O’ahu and the Pacific Ocean. I had always wanted to visit Hawai’i and going in person far exceeded my expectations. 🌺🌴🌊🐢 by @shannonsolt

Answer: he’ll be very annoyed 😂

#gifted 🎄 I’m so excited about this new @kingofchristmas artificial Christmas tree! I already have a King of Christmas 6.5’ Prince Flock tree for our living room but our family room tree needed a serious upgrade (the old one is 12 years old!!).

We have short ceilings so I picked the 7’ Tribeca Blue Spruce tree with pre-lit lights and boy is she a stunner! I’m not exaggerating when I say these trees look so real! And I can assure you that the quality is top notch!

My kids might be upset we don’t have any trees with colorful lights, but the remote control with 8 different light settings that they can change makes up for their disappointment 🤣

I’ll share the final reveal of this tree soon, including a very special sewing project I’m working on for this tree! Stay tuned 💚🎄🎅

Sewing Project #30 of 2026 is officially completed and i couldn’t be happier!

This was meant to be a mockup to practice using the @closetcorepatterns since I have never made a button down before. But I spent a lot of time making sure the details were done correctly and I think it paid off! My practice shirt turned out well enough to actually wear!

If you have been wanting to sew your own button downs I highly recommend this pattern! It’s the Jenna Shirt/Dress by Closet Core Patterns. It’s definitely an advanced pattern but it was so fun to learn new skills! Can’t wait to make my @bts.bighitofficial @j.m inspired button down next!

Sharing a few happy moments from my sewing space! Definitely the same two projects have been dominating this space, but both have been fairly advanced for me and require lots of time and patience. 😂

Honestly this is the best Halloween costume I’ve ever made (and one year I made a squirrel costume 🐿️😂)!

When Lilly said she wanted to be her @americangirlbrand Maryellen doll with the poodle skirt I jumped on board immediately. I promised her I would sew her costume and didn’t even think twice 😂

This sewing project had everything I could ever want! Design decisions with my sweet Lilly, new skills learned (buttons, pattern drafting, circle skirts), and pride that I created this from nothing!

I found the blouse pattern on @etsy from @shakalaka.patterns and the circle skirt pattern I made myself watching YouTube videos (had to re-learn some high school math in the process).➗✖️🟰♾️

The fabric for the blouse is from a local fabric shop (100% cotton), and the skirt fabric (100% flannel), buttons and ricrac are all from Michael’s.

I have a feeling we will be sewing more blouses and circle skirts with these patterns!

And that’s a wrap on project 29 of 2026! Lilly is in her @americangirlbrand era and so when she said she wanted to be her Maryellen doll for Halloween I jumped at the chance to make her a matching outfit!

I will admit this was far more work than I anticipated, but what sewing project doesn’t feel this way?! 😂

We definitely had fun deciding on the details and I learned so many new skills - sewing buttonholes and drafting my own circle skirt pattern!

She’s already asked for more blouses and skirts in these styles so I’m sure we’ll be making more in the near future!

This new mood board is really delighting me! All I did was wrap some cork board in a fabric scrap, hot glued it, and then I framed it! I love that I can change out what’s inspiring with the change of each season. Highly recommend making one if you are a creative and like to visual your process!

This room will always be bright and coastal inspired but I can see those darker fall coastal colors making their way in 😏 I also realized I’m lacking fall dresses! Might need to add a few to my project list! 🪡🧵🍁

Two more gingham dresses to add to the collection! I love how the blue gingham dress turned out, although I’m still getting used to those puff sleeves! And I love the cap sleeve of the red gingham dress but next time I’ll make one size smaller and not use seersucker fabric 😅

I love that sewing is always challenging me to play with new styles and fabrics - I learn something new with every single project 🙌🪡🧵
