Why No Faces?
In short the ambiguity helps the viewer place themselves in the artwork. I like the generic look and no expression to leave room for interpretation.

“At Leisure” by Shanta
a soft oil pastel

Enjoying a quiet moment now that the storm of guests have left my home. I do not regret spending time with the ones I love at all. I just look forward to the break to relax and make some meaningful art.

This pastel is made on canvas paper. It is a real jewel.

“The Artist is Your: Finding Your Voice” by Shanta Laster.

The Artist Is You: Finding Your Voice is an inspiring invitation to reconnect with the creative person within you. i wrote this book to encourage both emerging and experienced artists to move beyond self-doubt, comparison, and the pressure to create according to someone else’s expectations—and instead discover the unique voice that already exists within them.

At its heart, the book explores the idea that being an artist is not simply about mastering a technique or producing beautiful work. It is about expression, intuition, personal experience, and having the courage to tell your own story. Finding your artistic voice is a journey of discovering what moves you, what inspires you, and what makes your creative perspective uniquely yours.

Ultimately, The Artist Is You: Finding Your Voice is more than a book about making art. It is a message about permission: permission to create, to experiment, to be imperfect, to trust yourself, and to recognize that your life experiences have something valuable to contribute to your creative expression.

The central message is simple and powerful:

You don’t have to become an artist. The artist is already you.
