✅ Blues

I love that we had so much fun in the comps that even @rezasalleh , who hasn’t competed in blues said: “It looked fun. I think I can do that.”
However, being able to have fun comes from stable practices, past failures, confidence, resources, and a sense of security…Sometimes the last one was the most important for me.
Fortunately, I felt safe enough to show my character under the spotlight, because I was surrounded by a big group of friends in a warm, supportive, juke joint like environment.
@bluesdancingkl certainly did a great job of creating a wonderful space for magic to happen. The most magical thing was that after the comp, at least 5 friends from different countries sent me videos of my spotlight 😭😭😭
You know when I competed in Europe, receiving one film is already a luxury 😛😂
Thanks to the judges, my dancer partners, the DJ, and the audience🙏 Congrats to all the participants, especially my friends who did it the first time👏 taken in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia by @oolongblues.lwgy

In the summer in Europe, normally we have a dance break. Returning to Asia and competing with lots of super hardworking dancers made me stress, especially West Coast Swing is not my primary dance.

The showmanship and skills of competition were not there but I did feel good with my partner @cheeze_dance , with whom we had 4 dances in total😂 Tks for the gentle dances and your Singaporean fan club that made me also feel supported🙏

Also thanks to my Taiwanese friends- As the only Taiwanese dancer in my city in France, being surrounded by my own people made such a difference🥹

In the video, I could see limits in my body, influences of other dances, and hesitation in my mind, but in the end of the day, I don’t blame myself for not getting placed. Everyone has a different journey, and I still remember that the reason why I joined the WCS community in Taiwan 6 years ago was to find new friends.

I did grow as a dancer but my real drive never changed, and I think I did find countless beautiful souls throughout this dance journey, which’s one of the the biggest blessings in my life.

Big thanks to this amazing event #westivalkorea that connected people🤍 I hope I can dance more in Asia, cuz all these dancers are amazing 🤩 taken in Jeju Island, South Korea 제주도 by @oolongblues.lwgy

6 weeks of intensive study in London during our master’s program.
The English life opened a new door to us poor French speakers and introduced me to a place of absolute cultural diversity, immense amounts of commuting, high quality of arts, shocking high prices, and chaos experienced upon arrival.
I had no choice but lived a fairly economical life, which means that I biked whenever I could, cooked a lot, and shared a bed with my classmates. However I felt blessed to meet up so many old friends and professors, new dancers, classmates and housemates, and thanks to the visit of Adrien.
Some of my favorite moments were the lunar new year celebrations and the dancing practices in the theater of the Roehampton University. I had wished we could have had more dancing classmates in France, but in the end I believed everything was how it supposed to be.
Organizing these pictures made me smile and miss so many people.
The most beautiful ones taken from a proper camera and my London journal were lost because of a robbery in France, but nothing will prevent me from remembering the amazing moments. (The only thing I really don’t miss is London‘s weather 😵‍💫)
Thanks to all the people who walked me through this journey 🤍🤍🤍 taken in London by @oolongblues.lwgy

January in Italy, another wild dancey journey with @katrinhpvu and @hsun_0917. We drove around Tuscany, ventured into many old, renaissance heritages and tasted all the local delicacies including wild boar pasta and T-bone steak.
And of course we made new friends and met the old ones, we danced not only on the dance floors but also in the kitchen or in our room. I was stressed by hell lots of assignments back then but those moments with friends, food, and music saved my soul.
If any, I’d say I’ll keep practicing driving in Europe so next time we’ll have less dangerous moments on our journey 🙈🙈🙈(然後成為長勳的駕訓班也是一個幽默滿分的回憶,我這輩子陪伴超多人練車⋯⋯)
Next time I’ll visit you in Germany! by @oolongblues.lwgy

I hadn’t been so stressed about a performance like this-just survived the European heat wave, just graduated from this intense program, didn’t properly sleep for weeks, plus all the tragedies that happened before my graduation, like losing my computer.
My condition was bad: I was not allowed to wear my dance shoes on the stage, and I cried almost everyday like a loose tap, but somehow when I heard the music and got surrounded by a group of international dancers and friends, I just got pumped up and nearly forgot all the pain.
I graduated two days before this performance at the @choreomundus.festival and felt so lucky to be apart of the amazing @choreomundus.alumni
I’m so grateful that I went through this crazy journey with the smallest cohort ever and I got to show my growth to them and my love for blues to the new audience.
If it wasn’t for blues, I wouldn’t have be here.
Looking back at this performance, I remember how much pain I had in my body and mind…after two minutes I almost lost inspiration so I started to clap-and the audience started to clap, shake, and even sing along! They helped me finish this performance 😭😭😭
Big thank you to everyone again, thank you for organizing this beautiful event, hope to see everyone in two years🫶🫶🫶 taken in Clermont Ferrand, France by @oolongblues.lwgy

“… We held each other. We built something that I can only describe as a female community that is like family reminding us how home feels. That, more than any grade or academic achievement, is the most precious thing that this programme gave us.

We are grateful to everyone in history that allowed women from so different backgrounds to complete a master’s degree. Thanks to ourselves, for the effort and the bravery we had to keep navigating in the middle of the challenges. Thanks to our families, friends, partners and colleagues that supported us during this time…

Let’s share with the world how powerful it can be to resist any form of oppression that might seek to set us apart. Let’s share the joy of being alive and having a body that can dance in so many different ways”

Special credits for the winners with Crousmundus! 🙌 We are so proud of you!!

Graduation ceremony of my study of @choreomundus.master

We started this journey in Hungary, then Norway, France, and the UK. In between, I did my fieldwork in Chicago. My telephone number and address changed so many times that I felt like I could be pro at international money washing now.

The reason why I studied dance anthropology was because I love dancing too much, and one day my previous literature professor said to me:” Maybe you should not have studied creative writing; you should study dancing.”

Back then I had a very limited idea of dancing and dance studies, until I found this program which combines humanities with dances. I immediately signed up and it got me all the way here until the end.

On the graduation day, I danced HipHop, which I had no time to practice during these two crazily stressful years. It was the first dance I fell in love with and HipHop culture has shaped me as a person with humor, resilience, hotness, coolness, and musicality.

When I was 16, I could dance for 8 hours outside on the concrete floor on the hottest tropical island day. Before thanking this program and my classmates, I want to pay respect to HipHop, which made me a hard-ass woman who can rise from ashes (and heat waves) 1000 times.

HipHop forever. (And hope one day I’ll be able to practice it again…)

We did this choreography together, but never got to perform it. Now she’s currently back in China, and I miss her so much that I think this is the moment to share this emotional dance with you.

We almost cried after dancing. Dancing is a crazy thing that it tells so much about a person, sometimes even more than words. We are about to graduate now, which means after traveling everywhere together for 2 years, it’s time to farewell.

I just hate this feeling. This dance is also dedicated to my dear classmates @hey.jacqi @to.erojasparra @birdallbirdal I’ll miss you so god-dammed much.

This blues song is sung by Big Maybelle, a song about traveling, freedom, and independence as a black woman in a society in which sexism, racism, and classism were prevalent.
The dance I danced is an African American dance but I felt deeply connected to it and was empowered by the fierce vocal to present my masculine and feminine sides in front of many students and teachers at my university.
My French teacher commented that this was a version of me that he had never seen; I said it was the freest version of me, even though it was just for three minutes.
We often care about how do we look like when we dance, but blues dancing has been one of the precious dances that requires me to be tuned in with my emotions and vulnerability. It had saved me from darkness and it will continue to be my remedy.
I just want to share with my friends-this is a black dance, it’s not a part of the West Coast Swing, it has another kind of aesthetics, and it deserves to be understood. taken in Clermont Ferrand, France by @oolongblues.lwgy

I was supposed to be in Tunisia for the Christmas but ended up being in Porto because of my visa issue. Therefore this was a trip totally unexpected and unplanned, which was a bit difficult for a person who likes to plan things ahead.
However in the end, I enjoyed so much of the freedom to connect with different travelers. I spent time talking to at least 10 strangers and locals, discovered a local breakfast shop which mysteriously gave off Taiwanese neighborhood food shop vibes, drank so many kinds of Porto wines, and found a blues dance Christmas party.
I had absolutely no idea of the dancers in Porto, and then ran into a class led by Edmilson, a dancer whom I’ve been following online because of his cool style.
I also encountered a Brazilian band playing on the most touristic bridge. After the saxophonist played five notes, I started to search for all the cash in my pockets-Music, dance, food, wine, people, everything I love was there!
Thanks to Porto and the people for this wonderful journey 🤍 taken in Porto, Portugal by @oolongblues.lwgy

Second year at Paris Midnight Blues- so much growth, so many more friends, so much more connected to the culture.

Thanks to the musicians, Albert, and the audience. It was scary to be watched but I’m glad I did it and won the third place as a follower.

Since I moved back to Europe two years ago, I have been mostly dancing as a leader in my community and practiced solo at home. Since I constantly moved around, I do not have a fixed dance partner, a mentor, or teaching partner. This journey has been very lonely and challenging, despite having many helps from time to time. I’m just surprised by how much I can still grow in such a challenging situation.

And lastly, when people ask where I’m from- I’m a Taiwanese from Clermont-Ferrand and yes we have a blues community there !Please follow up @auverswing 💙 taken in Paris, France by @oolongblues.lwgy
