Released in 1997, Interiors saw Seattle’s Brad, featuring Shawn Smith, Stone Gossard, Regan Hagar and Jeremy Toback, deliver another beautifully crafted collection of alternative rock, soul and melody. Formed from the Seattle music scene in the early ’90s, the band had connections to Pearl Jam and Satchel, but Brad quickly developed a sound and identity all of their own.

Tracks like “Secret Girl” and “The Day Brings” are real highlights, but it’s the great vibe and Shawn Smith’s incredible vocal running right through the album that really makes Interiors stand out. There’s warmth, groove and melody throughout, with Smith’s voice giving the whole record its own character. An album that slips effortlessly into your day and somehow makes everything around you feel a little better!

Some albums don’t shout for attention, they quietly earn a place in your soul. Shame, released in 1993, is one of those records.
-
Formed in Seattle by Shawn Smith (vocals), Stone Gossard (guitar), Jeremy Toback (bass) and Regan Hagar (drums), Brad emerged at a time when the city’s sound was captivating the world. Rather than follow the heavier path many expected, they created something more soulful, melodic and timeless. Originally intending to call themselves Shame, they instead gave that name to their debut when they discovered the band name was already taken.
-
Songs like “Buttercup” and “20th Century” perfectly capture the album’s magic, one tender and deeply heartfelt, the other effortlessly loose with an irresistible groove. Shawn Smith’s voice is simply unforgettable, while Stone Gossard shows another side of his songwriting beyond Pearl Jam. With connections to Satchel, Pigeonhed, and Regan Hagar’s earlier work with Malfunkshun, Brad became a bridge between Seattle’s celebrated musicians, yet their sound was uniquely their own. Shame proved there was space for vulnerability, soul and subtlety alongside the era’s louder records, and its influence continues to grow with every new listener who discovers it.
-
Listening to Shame feels like standing on a quiet shoreline as the tide rolls in, gentle, reflective and impossible to forget. Some albums leave echoes; this one leaves a feeling, reminding us that the greatest beauty often lives in the places we almost overlook.
