There was a Partiful for this haircut! Brendan had each of his friends help cut his hair. They set up right next to me. We both felt lucky for that.

All 3 of us grateful to share the experience— to give, to transform, and to document this magical place where we get to be together.

It takes so much trust for someone to let a friendly stranger at Riis beach cut their hair, spontaneously, for free, as part of a ritual of becoming — which this queer haven so fully encourages.

In our talk during the cut, Anjali noted that it is vulnerable and takes trust in both directions. This is true! I also need to trust my listening, my asking, our communication, our connection, my vision, our sharing, the agreement, the goal, and the string of moments we make together.

Otto when documenting told me that what I do is see what’s needed and then give it. I’m rambling now because cutting hair puts me in a flow state, but what I mean to say is — it’s all true. There is nothing more natural than giving in harmony.

Anjali got their shedding and their new chapter. I got to give from my full, satisfied heart. Otto got something they love for their documentary film. We all three made each other’s dream come true today and we literally could not have done it alone.

When there is trust, there is no reason not to come together. When it’s safe, when it’s real, it’s fulfilling. I love when life shows us what it can be— when we realize it together. Find me on the sand at Riis.
