When the Vaigai flooded, the king commanded all to build the bund. Shiva came as a coolie to help an old pittu seller, resting after every strike. When anger fell on Him, everyone felt the pain, revealing Shiva’s leela—that the Divine resides in all.
This sanchari brings alive that moment of grace. Celebrated as Thiruvadhirai / Arudra Darisanam, devotees even today prepare kali and thalagam in remembrance.
This episode is depicted in the sanchari of the varnam Samagana Sivashankaranukinnai, composed by Vidwan P. R. Venkatasubramanian, in Ragamalika and Adi Talam, specially choreographed for our arangetram by our guru Smt. Anitha Guha.
