'We Breathe Together' - mother and baby orca. Available as A3 mounted prints, see below. "I love my family. I love being surrounded by mum, my aunties and uncles and siblings. I feel closest to mum. She is so gentle with me and yet she can be terribly fierce, especially when organizing the family to hunt for herring. I love how huge she is. Even when I close my eyes I can feel her heartbeat pulsing through the water. I feel protected next to her. I hope to be like her one day; she is the coolest orca in the world! I go off to play and when I return she rubs my back with her pectoral fin and she sings my favourite song. I am little and I need to breathe often but she always breathes with me at my pace. We breathe out together and we breathe in together. We breathe out together and we breathe in together. I know I’m never alone." I painted these orcas in Grundarfjörður in Iceland in Summer 2022. I am inspired by this mother-calf relationship, one of the closest caring bonds in nature. In Iceland I spend the mornings on sea and in the afternoon I paint in the studio of my mentor and dear friend Ludvik. I close my eyes and let my hands sweep across the paper – the orcas materialise themselves. You can buy this print and a copy of the accompanying text for £45 (mounted) plus postage. DM me! Thank you for supporting my work ❤️❤️❤️ With love from Shilpa ©Shilpa Shah 2022 by @shimmerystarfisharts
Here are some aura portraits I’ve painted in the last two years. What is an aura portrait? Why do I paint them? My voice still shakes when I talk about it but here goes… I started painting during my incredibly rough ‘dark night of the soul’ period in 2022. Inspired by my artist mentors Margaret in Devon and Lúdvík in Iceland, I’d move, dance, sing, then paint. It helped me FEEL and express what words couldn’t touch. I’d cry, rage, dance with joy. My job was to not think, or try. What came through my hands surprised me. Sometimes the colours were angry/sad, sometimes bright. It always felt true. I fell in love with them, just as I fell in love with the force that made them. I started painting for loved ones. I’d FEEL how they made me feel and meditate/pray for their dreams and health.. then I trusted the colours my hands chose and how they moved. I noticed the recipients often felt strong emotions and a kind of recognition of themselves, as if I’d painted a reflective mirror of their energy. Their aura? Since then others commissioned me and my paintings are in places such as Costa Rica, Canada, Iceland, India, all over Europe and the UK. Clients report how their portrait changes the energy of a room, with sometimes quite incredible impacts in their life. I feel gratitude and wonder. It’s a dream of mine to paint more aura portraits. I SO enjoy it and I love the connection with clients. People can commission an aura portrait for themselves, their beloved or family or organisation. We do an online consultation for me to get a sense of them. My experience as a coach helps me hold a warm, curious space. I often ask for favourite music or scents. Later, when the inspiration hits (usually like lightning) I make the painting, to a specified size. I parcel it in a tube with a handwritten love-letter and I send an accompanying bespoke deep rest audio meditation. My charge is £333 (with the option of paying £222 or £444 depending on what you can afford). I like repeating numbers lol. Commision me! Or ask questions! I’d love to hear from you!! ❤️❤️🐳 by @shimmerystarfisharts
Orcas, dreaming!! This happened yesterday, matriarch SN0192 Clara and others in her pod in a resting line, just kinda hanging there. It’s very unusual for us to see this here in Western Iceland. It didn’t seem a coincidence that it was on the same day as the first Orca Dreaming circle online 🥰 A beautiful group of humans from BC, Canada to London, resting together and sharing stories about orcas. People spoke of majesty, awe, power, togetherness, bridging different universes, love. Some fell asleep. Some cried when we watched this footage together. What are the orcas here to teach us about how we live in love and fearlessness? How do we listen? How does being kind to our bodies, stopping and resting together help us dream into our soul’s desires? And thus help us find peace in our relationships and communities? If you want to join the next one, please let me know, all welcome ❤️ Thank you @lakitours 🐳🩵 #deeprestmeditation #orcas #grateful #nervoussystemhealing #maythispeacespread by @shimmerystarfisharts
Shilpa has been a familiar face on board since 2016, returning to join us in search of orcas. 🫍 We were delighted to welcome her back again this season, and she kindly shared her experience and reflections on how Láki Tours has evolved over the years. There’s something truly special about welcoming guests who become part of our Láki family, united by a shared passion for cetaceans and their well-being. We’re always grateful for these lasting connections. Thank you, Shilpa, for being part of our journey! 💙 #whalewatching #lakitours #snæfellsnes #orca #orcawhale by @shimmerystarfisharts
Whirling, clapping, singing ancient songs, late nights with loved ones and getting chips from a takeaway on the way home…. 🥰 Navratri is one of my favourite times of year. The nine night dancing festival of the mother goddess, mataji. When I was a child my mum used to send us for a nap at 5pm so we could enjoy every evening of dancing and still be able to go to school the next day. I’ve been sharing stories and aura portraits of each Goddess in my Stories. I’m saving each Story to the ‘Goddess’ Highlight above on my profile too. Drop me any comments or questions. I’d love to hear how the different faces of the mother goddess / sacred feminine inspire you. Jai mataji. With love ❤️ by @shimmerystarfisharts
An Icelandic song for these beautiful horses ❤️🥹 Happy New Moon in Libra. Every cell in my body was aware of their responses as I sang for them. They seemed so aware too and gifted me their stillness and deep presence. It was gentle and so powerful. It felt a perfect expression of this new moon, all about healthy relationship ❤️🙏🏾 The song is Vegbúi. It’s singing to a travelling soul, asking them to sit awhile and rest and tell some stories. Thanks to Gísli for introducing me to the song and to him and Jo for helping me overcome any fear around horses some years ago. #iceland #vegbúi #kk #listening ❤️ by @shimmerystarfisharts
“The Aurora! Her wonder was so strong that she had to clutch the rail to keep from falling. The sight filled the northern sky; the immensity of it was scarcely conceivable. As if from Heaven itself, great curtains of delicate light hung and trembled. Pale green and rose-pink, and as transparent as the most fragile fabric, they swung and shimmered loosely with more grace than the most skillful dancer. Lyra thought she could even hear them: a vast distant whispering swish. In the evanescent delicacy she felt something as profound as she’d felt close to the bear. She was moved by it: it was so beautiful it was almost holy; she felt tears prick her eyes, and the tears splintered the light even further into prismatic rainbows.” - The Northern Lights, Phillip Pullman. ‘My Heart Sings’ ❤️🎷💫 This one was solely for the joy of five-year-old me and I had a lot of fun painting it 😆🥰🫠💃🏾🤸🏽‍♂️ I’ve showed it to a few people and watched their faces light up. That made Little Shilpa even happier 😍 My artist mentor Margaret said it is ‘Life giving’. Have you ever done something that you loved doing as a child WITHOUT you and people around you benefitting from it?! 105cm square, across two pieces of thick paper, unframed. Available for sale £555. I parcel worldwide. DM me 🤗🫍 by @shimmerystarfisharts
Each painting starts differently. The first few seconds are crucial. I start with feeling sensations in my body. The first few seconds seem to shape the essence for the whole process. Unless something else comes and takes me by surprise. Mood this morning….. soft 💗 #lostincolour #foundincolour #prayincolour by @shimmerystarfisharts
‘Krishna Dancing’ - ink on paper. It’s Janmashtmi today, or Krishna’s birthday. I realised it after I splashed this painting in my sketchbook, thanks to lots of messages in our family WhatsApp group ☺️. The colours and energy seems to match how I feel when I think of Krishna. I include some traditional images of a young Krishna and older Krishna with Radha in the last three slides. Krishna is revered as the divine avatar associated with playfulness and the devoted love shared between him and Radha. He was known for his naughty pranks as a child and his connection with nature and sensuality growing up. He always seems young to me, compared to the serious grown up vibes of others like Ram and Shiva. But he was a warrior too, using cunning when needed to, in the service of love. I don’t like the various cults who use Krishna’s name but from my Gujarati family, I can see he widely catalyses a vast and warm devotion. It’s not God-is-big-and-scary-and-out-there, but God as a cherished family member or God as a protective lover. For me, the stories of his time spent in the lap of nature, how animals flocked to him, the implied lack of shame surrounding his body and sexuality were always refreshing compared to the relatively serious, patriarchal and disembodied Gujarati culture I grew up in. I have a lot of curiosity about Radha. Who was she? She too must have enjoyed a lot of embodied freedom in his arms. Happy Janmashtmi! 🌹 🪈 🐄 ❤️ 🌳 🌈 🦚 by @shimmerystarfisharts
Pick one of the little blessing cards and scroll to see your chosen blessing for today. Being on silent retreat for 11 days under my grandmother trees was a treasure. Birdsong, sunshine, hours of sinking into my body, feeling feelings, yummy meals, no phone, early bedtimes, long lingering baths and rubbing oil into my skin. Still figuring out how to best relate to this horrible yet useful device I’m typing on right now and the world of social media which feels overwhelming for my nervous system. I’ll start small. In the retreat, I cut up a painting I did in Iceland and made these little cards for fellow silent yogis and wanted to share them with you all too! Let me know how your message resonates for you. Wish you love, aliveness and deep presence today ❤️🌳✨ #meditation #blessings #abundance by @shimmerystarfisharts
Looking for awesome women of all ages/backgrounds to join a trial online Orca Dreaming course! After 20+ years as a community group facilitator, I’m planning an 8-session online course that brings together my passions: 1. Deep rest meditation, breathing, dance and other delicious ways to drop into our bodies/soothe nervous systems 2. Creative writing/art to help us feel and express joyfully 3. Build bonds with other awesome women - your own online pod ❤️ 4. All gently inspired by how orcas live, orca science and orca spirituality I’ve been leading online ‘Orca Dreaming’ sessions for over a year and a little community of amazing women has formed. We lie down and rest, do fun creative exercises, have a little dance and discuss themes related to the orcas (strong community bonds, fierce power, matriarchal leadership, nurturing children, song, the ocean, wildness and JOY) We come away from sessions feeling a little more rested, connected and ALIVE. With their encouragement, I’m now planning an 8-week online course that offers a fin-tastic structured learning experience and accompanying resources. I’m looking for around 12 women to join a trial course. You’ll have a whale of a time and your feedback will help me make it fly (swim). It will have a sliding scale fee / be around the most popular time availabilities. It will likely start in September. Does this sound delicious to you? Do you know a fabulous woman who might be keen? You’ll need a Zoom connection and a quiet space to use once a week. No experience of meditation and no prior knowledge about whales needed. Please message me expressing your interest and I can send you more information and an example meditation recording to try. This video below is from the awesome @lakitours whale-watching boat in Iceland last year. Matriarch orcas Clara and Sakkara and their families came and lined up next to us. Sleepy and resting. It was on the day of the very first Orca Dreaming session. We watched the footage together on Zoom that night all teary-eyed. We knew these wild and magnificent beings had come to support us. ❤️ With love, Shilpa #meditation #orcas #women #communit by @shimmerystarfisharts
