The last of my student miniatures painted for the @shortcircuithobbies #shortcircuitlocallegends25 competition.

Lillian, grade 10, saw the prompt for this competition and started digging. She sought out a miniature of this truly haunting creature of folklore, the Nuckelavee. New to me, the Nuckelavee is a creature of Northern Scottish folklore that appears to resemble a typical horseman from afar, and upon further inspection reveals itself as a single skinless horse and rider combined into one demonic creature. by @shortcircuithobbies

This champion is proud of his offering to the Lord of Skulls.

My entry for @shortcircuithobbies Local Legends contest! When I saw “Grimdark” and “Ancient Curses”, Khorne immediately came to mind.

“Le soldat serbe” my entry for #shortcircuithobbies challenge #locallegends

the 1915 defence of Belgrade during WWI, focusing on Major Dragutin Gavrilović’s inspiring speech to his troops, who were heavily outnumbered. It captures a final, desperate charge to protect the city, honoring Serbian troops who were told to fight until their “last dying breath” despite knowing they were likely doomed.

The speech : Soldiers, exactly at three o’clock, the enemy is to be crushed by your fierce charge, destroyed by your grenades and bayonets. The honor of Belgrade, our capital, must not be stained. Soldiers! Heroes! The supreme command has erased our regiment from its records. Our regiment has been sacrificed for the honor of Belgrade and the Fatherland. Therefore, you no longer need to worry about your lives: they no longer exist. So, forward to glory! For the King and the Fatherland! Long live the King, Long live Belgrade!

This last stand was so epic, that @sabaton made a song about it!

Hello, good painters! Here is my entry to the @shortcircuithobbies Local Legends competition.

"We shut of the headlights and pull off to the side of the highway. The GPS coordinates we found on the internet have lead us to a inconspicuous opening in the bushes. That's our trail. We gather the equipment and head in. The trail instantly feels heavy. Like 1,000 eyes are watching. Typical of the forest in the PNW. The trail begins to quickly incline as the overgrown path trails up the hill. Off the left side through the trees our phone lights catch an old car, pierced by a tree. The slight feeling of fear intensified by the sight of man-made mechanics being swallowed by the woods. As the trees start to thin, nearing the crest of hill, we notice the tops of houses start to become visible. We crouch lower and approach enter our destination, Maltby Cemetery. Local haunt, popular ghost hunting locale, and home of the infamous 13 Steps to Hell."
Maltby Cemetery is a private cemetery located in Maltby, Washington. And the 13 Steps to Hell are a legend that tells a staircase that lead to the crypt of a wealthy family. As the story goes, one would descend the stairs and when they reach the bottom and turn around, they would be consumed by visions of Hell or of their soul descending into Hell. Driving them to insanity and sometimes even death. Leading to the stairs themselves being destroyed and buried, so there actual location within the cemetery is unknown. Though a popular ghost hunting spot, it is very much considered trespassing if visiting the cemetery.
Although I had plenty of hiccups and had to rush a bit to finish, I'm pretty happy with the end result! I really tried to capture the vibe of the location without worry to much about realism for ounce. Thanks for looking! Take care of yourselves and stay excellent!

This @loot.studios wendigo is painted by Quinten, grade 9. This is not his first taste of competition, you’ve certainly seen some of his other pieces- typically some sort of gnarly creature. by @shortcircuithobbies

My entry for @shortcircuithobbies "Most Whimsical" category - Story Below 👇🏼

"Song of The Croak Caller"

The marsh was not always alive at night.

Old stories say there was a time when the swamp fell silent after sunset. The frogs did not sing. The insects did not glow. The water lay flat and black like glass.

Travelers feared these places, for a silent swamp was said to be a dying one.

It was said that one day something small came walking out of the reeds. No one agrees on what he is. Some say he is older than the marsh itself.

Others say he was born from the first frog’s croak and the first lightning bug’s glow. A few claim he is what remains when a swamp dreams.

They call him Croak Caller.

Each evening, when the last light fades, he raises his bone flute and plays a note too low and too deep for human ears.

It is not truly sound, the old hunters say, but a feeling in the water. A trembling in the mud. A memory carried through root and reed.

The first to answer are always the frogs.

One croak.

Then another.

Then a hundred voices answering a call they do not understand but have always known.

Then come the insects.

Fireflies rise like drifting stars, moving in patterns unseen in daylight.

Crickets take up their steady rhythm. Wings hum. Water laps.

Reeds whisper.

And so the swamp becomes an orchestra.

The Croak Caller does not command them. He only begins the song. The swamp already knows the rest.

Those who have watched from the edges say he sometimes lowers his flute and listens, as if making sure every voice has joined. Only then does he disappear back into the dark water grass, his work now finished.

It is said you must never interrupt this first note.

For if his opening song is broken, the frogs lose their rhythm, the insects lose their light, and the swamp forgets how to live through the night.

Such places become still and sickly, avoided even by animals.

So the marsh folk teach their children:

When the first frogs begin to sing,
When the first lights begin to rise,
Walk gently. Speak softly.
For Croakcaller has begun his work.

And the swamp must always finish its song. by @shortcircuithobbies
