We organized. We fought back. And we shut down Berks. But 190 miles west in Clearfield County, local Commissioners are keeping immigrant detention alive at Moshannon Valley Processing Center, in partnership with private prison organization, GEO Group and ICE. Our demand: The Clearfield County Commissioners must end the contract with ICE and GEO Group immediately and refuse renewal in 2026. We shut down Berks, now it’s time to shut down Moshannon. Hey Shapiro! It's time to shut down the Abraxas Child Detention Center! No child belongs behind bars, especially in a facility with a documented history of abuse. But what can Governor Shapiro actually do about it? Join us for two virtual info sessions to learn how Shapiro can act to shut down Abraxas, end state collaboration with ICE, and expand protections for immigrant communities across PA. 📅 Nov. 11 | 5:30 PM 📅 Nov. 13 | 12 PM Register: Nov. 11: bit.ly/heyshapiro1 Nov. 13: bit.ly/heyshapiro2 Links in bio #ShutDownAbraxas #ShapiroEndStateICEcollaboration by @shutdowndetentioncampaign
--- Join us to remember the lives cut short by Moshannon and ICE detention centers across the country. Together, we will honor those we've lost and demand: - ICE out of our communities, - Redirect ICE funding into communities that need it - Shut Down ALL ICE Detention Centers Since January 2025, at least 54 people have died in ICE custody — a record-breaking number in under two years. These official counts don’t capture the full picture: ICE has released people into unsafe conditions, or right before their deaths, only for them to die shortly after. Enough is enough. Shut it down. This vigil is a part of a national action with @detentionwatch , the End the ICE Age Campaign, and Disappeared in America. by @shutdowndetentioncampaign

Almost a year ago, Constance was detained while going through immigration at the Philadelphia Airport and taken to Moshannon Valley Detention Center, separated from her loved ones, her job, and her mother, for whom she is the primary caregiver. Her loved ones are raising funds to support Constance’s fight for freedom and family. 💚 Donate or share: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-constances-fight-for-freedom-and-family Every contribution and share helps her family keep fighting to bring Constance home. by @shutdowndetentioncampaign
As the Shut Down Detention Campaign we are disappointed and furious that Clearfield County has once again chosen to be complicit in human rights abuses, to be complicit in the violation of the constitution, to choose to work with an agency that has murdered people in cold blood. As Pennsylvanians from across the commonwealth, we fight for freedom and justice for our community. And we know that immigrant detention is in direct opposition to the values we hold most dear in our state; Justice, Freedom and Family. Immigrant Detention is always unjust, abusive and unnecessary; we are seeing this administration funnel our tax dollars to abuse our neighbors instead of investing in what we actually need: affordable education, housing, and healthcare. by @shutdowndetentioncampaign
Centre County Folks and Pennsylvania Friends, Remember that recent Spotlight PA piece discussing the key role that the State College airport is playing in the detention and deportation of thousands of immigrants? If you read the article, Penn State and CCAA officials make it seem like there is nothing to be done, but do not be fooled into thinking that no actions can be taken to safeguard immigrants from unsafe conditions. We encourage you to reach out to the stakeholders featured here who have the power to take action to not only protect immigrants but all the passengers coming through State College airport. We demand safety for all! Remember to SHARE as many of our neighbors here in Centre County still do not know the major role State College and Clearfield County are playing in sustaining the deportation machine. by @shutdowndetentioncampaign
Live update from Clearfield County Offices: GEO Group’s Moshannon contract extended by 6 months. The fight continues, and we believe that we will win! by @shutdowndetentioncampaign
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR. PROTECT EVERY CHILD. SEPTEMBER 27, 2026 World Day of Migrants and Refugees Prayer Vigil, March, & Rally in the Strip District Begin at 2 pm At 21 St and Smallman (in front of St Stanislaus) Conclude at Denny Park (near the Abraxas office)* Gather with Pittsburgh area neighbors for an interfaith vigil, march, and rally to advocate on behalf of child migrants and vulnerable immigrants. As people of good will from all faiths and no faith, we’re honoring the World Day of Migrants and Refugees on the Catholic Calendar. Pope Leo’s message for 2026 begins: “Each year the World Day of Migrants and Refugees invites us to turn our attention to different aspects of the complex phenomenon of migration. For this 112th World Day, the theme, “Even just one of these children,” draws our attention to the minors directly involved in the experience of migration and flight, to the care owed to them, and to the Lord’s promise that “whoever receives one such child in my name receives me” (Mk 9:37). ● Daily expressions of respect and care for immigrant neighbors ● Restore legal representation for migrant children ● Call on Governor Shapiro to fight for Immigrant Rights ● Shut down Abraxas: End the holding of unaccompanied children and teens at the secure detention unit run by Abraxas near Reading PA ● Honor Daphy Michel & hold ICE accountable for her death ● Protect immigrant neighbors from intimidation, loss of due process and deportation to dangerous, life threatening places. ● Restore TPS for Haitians and more by @shutdowndetentioncampaign
HELP US SHUT DOWN MOSHANNON! Clearfield County has a choice to make about the future of ICE detention at Moshannon, and we need our communities to show up. On Tuesday, September 22, the Clearfield County Commissioners are scheduled to vote on whether to extend the agreements connected to the Moshannon Valley Detention Center for another six months. The current agreements with ICE and GEO Group expire at the end of September, and this vote comes as ICE is simultaneously pursuing longer-term detention contracts that could continue operations for years to come. Moshannon is the largest immigration detention facility in the Northeast, and advocates, attorneys, elected officials and people who have been detained there have raised serious concerns about conditions inside, including inadequate health care, poor-quality food and allegations of physical and psychological mistreatment. 📍 SHOW UP IN CLEARFIELD Tuesday, September 22 at 10:30 AM Clearfield County Commissioners Office 212 E. Locust Street, 1st Floor Clearfield, PA 16830 If you cannot attend, contact the commissioners today and share your views on the proposed six-month extension: Tim Winters: twinters@clearfieldcountypa.gov John Sobel: jsobel@clearfieldcountypa.gov Dave Glass: dglass@clearfieldcountypa.gov HELP US SHUT DOWN MOSHANNON! #ShutDownMoshannon #Pennsylvania #ClearfieldCounty #Moshannon #FrontlineDIGNITY noICE immigration by @shutdowndetentioncampaign
There’s enough evidence that exists that we have reason to believe that the Department of Homeland Security is planning to purchase the Moshannon Detention Center from GEO Group, something that would be further waste of our tax payer money, a loss of property taxes to Clearfield County, and would make an already dangerous situation to immigrants held there even more dangerous. We demand that the Clearfield county commissioners vote no on any contract extensions with GEO Group and DHS. We demand that the Department of Homeland Security releases those detained in the Moshannon Detention Center. by @shutdowndetentioncampaign
