New North returns for concert 19: ‘Imprints’ by Jack Palmer with an opening set by Sia Ahmad

Composer/video artist/performer Jack Palmer presents Imprints, a new work for percussion ensemble, electronics and 3d models. Featuring @cox.ollie @zela_ @hamdrummer @michaelfindlaymcnab

Imprints brings together projections of 3d models and sound — a visual-musical display of mind and its objects.

Sia Ahmad has been creating idiosyncratic sounds over the last decade and more. Using guitar, keyboard, voice and electronics, she works both as singer/composer and improviser, when performing solo, as Shoeb Ahmad, as well as collaborative projects. She has released a diverse range of original music while also working on sound design for dance/theatre, installation pieces and contemporary chamber composition, inspired by 20th-century avant-classical works, Indian raga form and minimalist electronic music.

three hours of power snack adventure feat. @sl33py.123 #foodtravel #onelongmeal by @siaxray

this one's been out for a few weeks now but finally getting round to posting about it, much like the release - better late than never!

@raymondmacdonald94 and i hit the road after giofest in 2022, first time doing a duo tour after many trips with dear friend @alisterspence and one random time when raymond joined my band @agencycbr onstage in kuala lumpur. we did do our first duo the arvo after in singapore, wild times.

we had shows lined up in the netherlands and wales but thanks to wes from @newjazzandimprovisedmusic, we started the tour with a train trip to newcastle to play a gig/recording sesh at @blankstudios.

we got big slabs of audio from john martindale (studio engineer) pretty soon after but having slept on it for a few years, we made some moves to work it into some decent edits from both the soundcheck and the session/gig proper and here you go: jesmond, in honour of the neighbourhood we found ourselves in for less than 24 hours.

the two of us were exploring something that abstracted our love of indie pop songwriting a bit further while leaning into our minimalist tendencies. apart from our usual sax and electronics steez, i was borrowing guitars in most locations and lucked out with the in-house jazzmaster while raymond played some beautiful things throughout on the studio upright piano.

available on bandcamp / link in bio.

a little revisit to a recent performance i did for @civic_art_bureau back in late august. was nice to get the invitation from adam to do a live installation approach, finally busting out the solo dual electric guitar and amp setup in response to the @elisacrossing exhibition.
