In the Netherlands, there is a strong art academy system, but the transition from graduation to a professional artistic practice remains difficult. After graduating, young artists often lose the visibility, networks and context that the academy provided. Their work is frequently shown only within individual graduation exhibitions, making it difficult to see and connect the broader generation of emerging artists. SIGNAL ’26 responds to this gap by bringing artists, curators, cultural professionals, press and the public together in one concentrated moment. It helps them move from being graduates to being recognised as professional artists, while creating direct connections with the people and institutions that can support the next stage of their careers. For three hours, twenty graduated artists from Dutch art academies this year come together for a multidisciplinary exhibition - bringing together practices across visual art, fashion, design, photography, film, digital art, sculpture, textiles, jewellery and more. This is not an exhibition of graduation work. It is a snapshot of a generation at the moment between academy and professional practice: experimental, curious, process-driven and moving across disciplines. At SIGNAL ‘26, exhibition, conversation and encounters merge with each other, where artists will present throughout the event during the evening, offering a closer look into the ideas, questions and practices behind the work. Tickets available from 16 September. initiative by @burobabet funds @vandenendefoundation & Zadelhoff Cultuurfonds partners @qparknederland @andstaat @drinkstelz @jcdecaux.nl supported by @gemeenteamsterdam visual by @andstaat & @edwinvangelder 📍 Q-Park garage beneath Museumplein, Amsterdam 📅 Friday 16 October 2026 ⏱ 18:00 - 21:00 www.signalexpo.com #SIGNAL’26 #AmsterdamArt #EmergingArtists #YoungMakers #DutchArt Amsterdamexhibitions by @signal.expo

THE ARTISTS RECAP From the first unexpected e-mail to the beginning of new communities, for the artists SIGNAL ’26 became more than just an exhibition. It was a moment of shared experience, creative exchange and recognition. For some, it was about seeing so many different practices come together. For others, it was about connecting through shared challenges, finding a sense of belonging or seeing themselves reflected in someone else’s work. What stayed with us most was the warmth, openness and concentrated curiosity that filled the space. There was a sense that something meaningful had begun and that these three hours were just the starting point for something bigger. Thank you to all 20 artists for sharing your work, your stories and a part of yourselves with us. And thank you to everyone who came, connected and made this first edition what it was. Keep discovering, connecting and supporting the artists around you. initiative by @burobabet funds @vandenendefoundation & Zadelhoff Cultuurfonds partners @qparknederland @andstaat @drinkstelz @jcdecaux.nl supported by @gemeenteamsterdam & @flyerman.nl pictures by @evahuizingphotography by @signal.expo
