Learning to let go… go find some crayons! 🦉🐇🦔

These little woodland creatures were deeply inspired by the joyful drawings of my sweet granddaughter. We’ve been coloring together, and she reminded me how incredibly relaxing it is to trade „accuracy“ for playfulness.

Using just some crayons forced me to keep things loose and just enjoy the process. No erasing, no overthinking, just relaxing into the textures and shapes. 🌿

I loved stepping away for a while. Why not do something simple and creative this weekend? Here are our sketches of a few woodland neighbors. Which one is your favorite? 👇

I’m excited to share my lineup for the Botanical Beasties 2026 art series. I loved all the prompts and exploring more of the wild through each one.

Week 1: Deer + Dahlia 🦌
Week 2: Hare + Dandelion 🐇
Week 3: Starling + Blackberry 🐦‍⬛
Week 4: Hedgehog + Mushrooms 🦔

This challenge also kept me connected to nature over the past few weeks, when I haven’t been able to walk in it as much as I’m used to because of a knee injury. I really miss my daily walks with my lovely dog, but I’m on my way to recovery. 🌿

Thank you to all creatives who shared their beautiful work, and to the wonderful hosts for bringing us all together:

Before wrapping up and looking back, I think the deer and giant dahlias were my favourite to draw. There was something about this combination that I really loved. 🦌🌸

Swipe to see the design on some fun applications.

Just finished my last prompt for #BotanicalBeasties2026 with a little drawing about finding magic and small wonders along the way. ✨

So happy I got it done! It was definitely a challenge for me, but so much fun.

Week 4: Hedgehog + Mushrooms 🦔🍄‍🟫

Looking at the first three prompts for #BotanicalBeasties2026 all together now, I’m really enjoying how they’re starting to feel like a little collection. 🌿

This challenge has been such a fun creative change from making patterns, and now I’m thinking I might have to put them all together somehow.

Still seething over the last one, hedgehog + mushrooms. That little hedgehog is proving much trickier to get right than expected! 😅

While drawing the next prompt, I could really see these Botanical Beasties coming to life on greeting cards. Just a perfect way to send love from the beauty in the wilderness! 🌿

Who else would love to share a design like this with someone special? 👇✨

Where wild things wander. 🐇

Here’s my entry for this week’s #BotanicalBeasties2026 art challenge. It took me some time to get them just right, and I finally love my hares.

Introducing a new colourway of Hydrangea Berry Garden in my Spoonflower shop.

The original design blooms on a soft peach background, while Hydrangea Berry Garden Night brings the same hydrangea, berry and garden-inspired florals into a moodier palette on a soft gray ground.

A little deeper, a little dreamier, and full of rich botanical colour. ✨

A sweet little dress wandering through grassy summer fields. This beautiful toddler dress features my hydrangea design, bringing soft florals charm to sunny-day adventures. I’m so delighted to see this pattern come to life in a lovely mockup by the amazing @artfulmembership 🌸

Deer + Dahlia 🦌🌸 #BotanicalBesties2026

Dahlias bloom bright, while deer pass by. But this little visitor decided to stop and admire the view. Surrounded by giant dahlias, he seems to have found the perfect place to pause, wander, and simply take it all in.

This is my first illustration for the Botanical Besties art challenge, and I’m so excited to see where this botanical adventure takes me. ✨
