𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐 𝑶𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒓 🍂 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏!

It’s been a little while since I’ve introduced myself, so I thought the start of a new month was the perfect time.

I’m 𝑺𝒂𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒂, a reader, a journaler, and the creative behind Simple Happy Journaling. I created the Simple Happy Reading Journal as a beautiful place to slow down, reflect on the books you read, and record the quotes, thoughts, and little moments you don’t want to forget.

It's not about how many books you read, it's about creating a keepsake of the ones that have meaning for you.

I’m excited to be sharing more around here again. 🤎

Whether you’re new here or you’ve been following along for a while, drop a 👋🏾 in the comments and say hello!

We read because of the experience, and every now and then a book meets you in a place you were not expecting. Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson did that for me. It lingered with me long after I closed the last page. In this historical fiction based on the life of Mary Lumpkin, we follow an enslaved woman named Pheby whose strength, fear, impossible choices, and deep love carry her forward even when the world around her refuses to bend.

Books like this remind me why I journal my reading life. When a story stirs something in you, you need a place to set it down… the emotions, the questions, the pieces of history you do not want to rush past. Creative reflection gives me room to hold the meaning.

The prompts and open space in the Simple Happy Reading Journal helped me capture the moments that mattered, the ones that deserve more than a quick flip to the next book. I even created a spread for this read, and it helped me slow down and sit with what the story offered.

If you have read Yellow Wife, I would love to know what stayed with you. 💛📚✍🏾

Anyone else trying to squeeze in a few more cozy fall reads before jumping into cozy Christmas books? 🍂📚

If you are, I have one to share! Murder at Cinnamon Falls by R.L. Killmore was one of my favorite fall reads last year, and it's one I've been recommending this fall. @necoleryse

The story follows Nia, who returns to her charming hometown of Cinnamon Falls after a breakup and a few life setbacks. Just as the town is preparing for its annual Fall Fest, a beloved friend is found murdered, and Nia finds herself trying to solve the mystery alongside her high school sweetheart.

I listened to this one last fall, and it sent me down a cozy mystery rabbit hole! I love a good series, and this one had so many things I enjoy: small-town autumn vibes, Black characters enjoying everyday life, good food, community, a little romance, and a mystery to solve without all the gore.

I had so much fun revisiting the story the story this year and capturing it in my reading journal.

Are you still enjoying fall reads? 🍂 Or are you putting up the Christmas tree today? 🙃

Sit down and read the book, woman!

I'm learning that I don't have to finish everything on my to-do list before making time for the things I enjoy.

Life is full, and I'm so grateful for it. But I also want to enjoy it, not just spend my days managing it.

So here's your encouragement☝🏾to read a few chapters, open your journal or diary, or do something just because it brings you joy!

When was the last time you sat down to read or did something you enjoyed just because you wanted to? by @simplehappyjournaling

Life gets full, and sometimes even the things we enjoy most get pushed to the bottom of our to-do lists.

Here's your little reminder to slow down, pick up a good book, and make time for something you enjoy.

And when something you read speaks to you, take a moment to really reflect on it. 🤎

Slow down. Read deeper.

Don’t let the stories that shaped you fade away after turning the final page. ✨

Life gets full. We move on to the next book, the next task, the next thing that needs our attention, and even the details we thought we’d never forget can start to fade.

So when a book shifts your perspective, speaks to your heart, or simply gives you something you want to hold onto, take a few minutes to write it down. It helps you remember what made that book meaningful.

Capture your favorite quotes, reflections, and book moments in one place so you can return to them long after you’ve finished reading.

Good stories are worth remembering. 🤎

Some words stay with you long after you close the book...

I like to make a point of recording the quotes I don't want to forget. It's a simple way to hold onto the ideas, encouragement, and moments that speak to me.

I used to put them in my phone, but there is something about writing them down in my reading journal and flipping back through it that makes them feel even more special.

What's a quote you've highlighted recently that you couldn't leave behind? Share it in the comments! I’m always looking for great books and memorable lines. 🤍
