Today we said goodbye to our family’s first dog, Beanie.
Born on a street in Oakland on December 19, 2011, Bean and her littermates were relinquished to a shelter by a homeless man.
We adopted her when she was just a few months old and Mia was five. These two grew up together, and even though I’ve probably rescued 70-80 animals since Bean, Bean has always been Mia’s favorite.
Until a few years ago, Beanie loved long hikes and chasing our car (on deserted roads). She loved swimming and playing with her best friend, Itsy. Her favorite place was Fort Funston. And probably Lake Winnipesaukee, where she spent several summers of her puppyhood. One of her favorite activities was giving Itsy facials (will share video of that later this week).
Like all of us, Beanie wasn’t perfect but she was a damn great dog. Loyal and loving. Smart and playful.
We love you, Beanie. Thank you for giving us almost 15 years of love, protection, and joy. Rest easy, girl 🐶🌈✨🕊️❤️ by @dxelosangeles

Bernard spent the better part of Sunday chasing Itsy. She’s grateful for heavy tables. Encouraging us to add a few more.

Hey friends,
We really need volunteers! 💪🪏🐷🐓
If you love animals and at least like (or don’t mind) manual labor (cleaning out coops, picking up pig poo — it’s more fun than the gym!), please message us (here or at singersanctuary@gmail.com).
We especially need week day volunteers for midday help but we’re open to all days / hours.
Hoping for reliable, hardworking animal lovers able to commit to at least once a week 🙏❤️🐐🐰🐶 by @dxelosangeles
