POSTS STORIES REELS
Over my years of picking up a camera, I've found myself constantly drawn to and pulled towards people who are at the top of their game. From Jai Long, to Nigel James, award winners like Rasei Fort and Omar Morsi, to this weekend with @sirajsoufimma and Lachlan Giles, and more. And if theres one thing I've noticed about people who are busy chasing greatness, it's the way they attract light, fit into imperfect yet perfect frames. by @siraj.films
AI visuals only look like "slop" when there’s no real taste behind them. Most people are using these tools to generate content. I’m more interested in whether they can generate feeling. This is one of my favourite shots from a film I made for the niche, luxury perfume brand Rasei Fort. Built with the same approach I’d use behind a real camera. Mood, restraint, atmosphere, human detail. The tools are becoming accessible, but taste still isn’t. #BrandStorytelling #LuxuryBranding #BrandFilms by @siraj.films
20 hour shifts just to help his family. 4 hours in and we want to take a 3 month vacation lol. Last chance to donate as I'd like to send the money over and hand it to them inshaa'Allah. DM me for details. by @siraj.films
Sorry for a messy little film but I wanted to get something out quickly as people are already donating. I originally thought it was 8 of them, but it's actually 10. I thought when they said 8 they meant including the parents. 10 people in one room. No heater, no room for a stove, no washing machine, no fridge, no space. A quick background. The two twins are 11 and both work 12 hour shifts for somewhere between $25-$40 a week. The older brother works 20 hours a day. Yes, 20 hours every day, and is the one who spends on the family. Their father and older sisters are in Syria trying to build themselves a house. The work conditions might not be better there but it means they'll have a decent place to live and the kids can be where they're meant to be, in school. I saw one of the twins when I first came here and I'm telling you, his smile alone is what convinced me to find a way to help. The sweetest, most respectful, soft, innocent little boys I've ever met. They don't talk to adults much, but when my son is with me, they always, ALWAYS, squeeze his cheeks and try take his hand to play with him. After filming this video, I bought them two winter blankets and delivered them. She thanked me for 1 minute straight. One last note, these people have never asked for anything, are known in the area to never ask for anything and known for their character and honesty, may Allah bless and protect them. DM me and I'll send over the Australian bank details. I'll collect money first then send it here all together inshaaAllah. Here's a link to the list of donations so you can hold me accountable too: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mhh6XD8PUqwaa2CTLcXyN7SSIdwrgkyaTMDd5WbgFEw/edit?usp=sharing by @siraj.films
I love how the life of a shepherd remains slow, whether they're in the village or in a large, growing city like the Minieh. by @siraj.films
"Shu badak minon?" "What do you want from them?" Meaning why are you getting involved with them, or why mix with people like that.. A 12 year old Lebanese boy said to me when he saw me hanging out with and taking photos of Syrian kids. Even if my family didn't originally come from the border of Lebanon and Syria, with the majority being on the Syrian side, it'd still be annoying to hear. I was walking home and like many people here when they see my camera, this little girl asked me if I could take her photo, so I did. I think I should buy a mini Instax printer to connect to the Fuji and print these out for people who ask for their photo taken. One Syrian boy was even waiting for the photo to come out. That's how out of touch he is with the digital world. No phone, no internet, and definitely no camera. I'll share some more soon that were taken specifically during commissioned work once they post them inshaa'Allah. #lebanon #syria #middleeast #humanitarianphotographer #humanitarianphotography by @siraj.films
An elderly woman watching a neighbour who passed away being put into a hearse and taken away. I wish I captured longer of this, I thought I did. But other neighbours came out and I filmed them too. But this one spoke to me the most. Allah yarhamun wa yarhamna, because God knows how much the living need His mercy just as much. by @siraj.films
Sounds and sights of Umrah. The humming dua of 50 different nationalities, the forgiving light around fajr, the caring, comforting hands of loved ones. Where else would you find this? I'm late to the party but I told myself I'd never use this format, but it felt so right for this 🤣 I had to sneak my camera in so a lot of the shots are from a discreet angle but I'm obsessed with low angle shots anyway, so it worked out. Sincere apologies to the royal family... #umrah #saudi #alhumdulillaah #deen #islam #mecca #lol by @siraj.films
You know, before going there, I used to always ask people what it was like to be next to the ka'ba. And every single one of them have paused, and then said they couldn't explain it. And here I am unable to explain it. I'm hoping these frames will help. I feel like the further away that time takes me from this trip, the more I grow to miss it. Editing this film only makes the feeling stronger. These are some frames from Abdul Qadir's Umrah and Wedding. by @siraj.films
The emotion of it all didn't hit me while I was there. It felt way too surreal. But as I go through the footage to start weaving a story together, the emotions are flooding in. I realise now this is always the case when I shoot something emotional, something that tugs at the heart. It's why I've always needed time between the shoot and the editing to sit with the experience. Otherwise it's just back to back heaviness and you can't edit with watery eyes 😂. Here are some frames from a 'Umrah & Wedding I was privileged to film last month (low res proxies). By far my favourite project to date. (Sorry everyone else, I'm sure you understand 😁😁 by @siraj.films
I documented a wedding in Saudi Arabia last month. At the jewellers to pick up the rings, I really wanted to photograph this guy but he was so straight faced, I didn't think he'd accept. Moments later he asked me to take his photo 😂 by @siraj.films
Took some snaps from the car while driving back from Mish Mish in North Lebanon. I don't know what this place is doing to me lol. by @siraj.films
