My first documentary Knowledge Is Power will be premiering at the Toronto Black Film Festival February 16th-21st! The entire festival will be streamed online and you can grab your $12 tickets by clicking the link in my bio. With your purchase you’ll be able to stream the film for a full 24 hours between February 16th - February 21st!

Personally I am so excited to share this documentary with you all! I’d like to thank the BBIC for backing my project, @fabienne_colas and her foundation, @itstaij @trusteemcdonald @iamorughu @shaackiie @shesshany @spokenbyt @starterpvck @shekilledart and everyone else who has supported me on my filmmaking journey over these last 8 years.

I think in some ways we can all relate to the issue of the flawed Canadian education system and the time to speak up about it is now! Remember that #KnowledgeIsPower and my goal is that this film can begin a serious dialogue around bettering black students throughout the education system!

This project was created to challenge the crabs in a bucket mentality and serve as a reminder that there’s room for all of us to grow and succeed together.

Huge thank you again to my incredible collaborators @landons_photo_art & @prishamiitra and much love to Vibe Arts & the RBC Desired Lines program for making this possible. Shout out to my talented subjects @_ttia_ @4sante @leethesurrealist @filmitnate @soundoftj @visualsbyshan Each who are well on their way to success & great things 👏🏾

You can now see the final piece on display at Wellesley Subway Station in Toronto🙏🏾 by @sircurtisjames

Back in the fall of 2024, I was gifted the opportunity to design a poster that would be displayed in a TTC subway station Thanks to @vibeartsto and the @rbc Desired Lines program.

I wanted to challenge something unfortunately deeply rooted in city, the crabs in a bucket mentality… where people tear each other down instead of building together. Instead we replaced the crabs with artists, each representing an artform from the city which the bucket represents. They fall from the bucket freeing themselves from the toxic notion that we can’t thrive together and through collaboration and unity is where the possibilities are endless.

I hope this piece can act as a reminder & motivator to artists who sometimes feel like there may be no hope. The talent in this city is endless & its time we embrace it the right way🙏🏾 ♾️ If you wish to view my art piece in person you can catch it at Wellesley Station in Toronto via the Northbound platform.

Thank you @prishamiitra who helped capture all of our subjects and @landons_photo_art for helping me bring my vision to life in post production! & of course my subjects @4sante @_ttia_ @filmitnate @leethesurrealist @soundoftj @visualsbyshan who are all well on their way to achieving success in their fields 👏🏾

From the bucket to the stars, let this be proof that when we support each other, we all elevate. We’re rewriting the story of our city, one artist, one connection & one moment at a time ♾️ by @sircurtisjames
