Dear Mom,

This journey has been one for the books. You’d be amazed at the things that I’ve experienced, the places I’ve been and the people I’ve interacted with. None of it makes losing you easier. The idea that I can’t call you to share these moments with you is painful. I couldn’t have gotten this far without your teachings and your prayers. I am becoming a better man because of you and I thank God daily for sending you as my mother, my mentor, my guiding light. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss your hugs and your warmth. You were really one in a lifetime. I’ve done my best and sometimes it didn’t seem like it was enough, I’ve tried to let go of this pain and it doesn’t seem like it’ll happen but I found an outlet that allows me to remember you, the same outlet that you first placed into my hands. For the last 9 years I fought to write this book for you, about you and every time I never thought it was good enough, perfect enough and I kept pushing it back. For me, you were everything and I wanted to make sure I did your legacy justice by creating something that was worthy of you and your memory. I hope you’re proud and happy. I pray that you’re at peace and that these words reach your heavenly ears. I Love You Mom, Happy Birthday

Thoughts

I’ve been battling with these feelings that plague me
Learning that my past may sometimes seep into my thoughts like a virus
Infecting my emotions, corrupting my moods, and alienating me from those I hold dear
I’ve been pushing away, running from the idea of opening myself
Never thought I’d have to re-allow entities into my space again
Readjusting to the idea of togetherness and truth
I doubt this road will be easy nor will it always be full of smiles
But sometimes I see glimpse of fireworks
Combustions of eagerness that tickle my spine into correctness
Sends my chest into a beating drum of joy
Loudly and unapologetically expressing the nuances that keep me sane
Climbing the mountain that I so desperately felt fear from
And standing at the top and gazing at the horizon of my insecurities laughing
Laughing at the slew of things I allowed to hold me down
Hold me back from being me to its entirety
The me that I’ve envisioned since I could pounder the thought of who I was
The me that my mother worked so hard for
I have allowed fear and time to display itself for far too long
My mind plays tricks on me causing me to doubt the truth I’ve already acknowledged
Why am I so fixated on perfection
Why do I focus on the things that I have no control over
I need to release the energies that don’t serve me
Remind myself that I have all the tools to accomplish all of my hearts desires
And the things that I don’t have to leave up to God
This isn’t a cry for help nor is it me venting
This is the culmination of a man finally realizing that he is enough by @sirpredestin
