Is this Beaconsfield’s coolest new café? We think so.

Family-run, a small but considered menu and a seriously cool ‘70s vibe. Meet Black Flower Social, the latest venture from the founders of local coffee shop Benedict’s (so we had a feeling it was going to be good).

Coffee by day, aperitifs by night. We popped by on a sunny Saturday evening for cocktails and nibbles before dinner. The coffee machine was well and truly OFF, the vinyl was spinning and our Hugo Spritzes were going down so well, we’re pretty sure they were drinking themselves… Don’t fancy drinking? They’ve got you covered with great kombucha options on the menu, too.

This is definitely one to add to your list. Go early to make sure you bag a table. This place fills up fast! 💨

Have you been?

We love a good pub. We love an even better pub glow-up.
So when The Black Horse in Thame unveiled its fresh new look, it was the perfect excuse for a sisterly hang out.

The refurb landed just in time for summer, but we reckon October is when it really comes into its own. It’s that in-between month, with bright, golden afternoons giving way to cold, cosy nights. And The Black Horse has both covered. The refurbished garden terrace is (literally) made for these final sunny days. Come the evening, when the air turns crisp and you can stop pretending you’re brave enough for the cold, grab a glass of red and head inside to their candlelit cosy bar.

Part of the Heartwood Collection, co-founded by celeb chef Raymond Blanc, so you know the food is going to hit the spot. Throw in seasonal cocktails, mocktails and genuinely lovely service, it’s a big thumbs up from us.

Thanks for having us, Black Horse. Next time, Sunday lunch?
