Absolutely delighted to be featured in the Guardian yesterday championing beautiful, seasonal blooms, small scale growers in the ever-growing British cut flower market.

More importantly, after tireless work from @flowersfromthefarm, the government has now awarded the sector official recognition, in the form of dedicated standard industrial classification (SIC) codes for Flowers from the Farm.

What does a SIC code mean ?

It will provide small scale growers & farmers with formal economic recognition as well as providing a stronger collective voice to lobby local and central government for industry specific support, education pathways and initiatives that champion British grown blooms over imports.

As Georgie Newbery, External Chair of Flowers from the Farm, so eloquently said "flower farming differs from land-use approaches that rely on setting land aside, and that it combines economic activity with environmental benefits.

Getting this SIC code means that not only can we prove how much flower growers are putting into the British economy but that we’re in a position to be acknowledged and encouraged by government, because we finally exist! – and the most important thing is that we can now look at the biodiversity net gain protocol, which will give us protection. The SIC code also allows us to lobby for more, and if we can lobby for more, then it will be much, much clearer for consumers that the flowers that they are buying are British-grown".

On today of all days, I’m immensely grateful and proud of our team of female farmers.

Most people’s image of a farmer is a man, often on a tractor, toiling out in the countryside.

Yet our organic, regenerative farm is in Inner London. Our team is all women and we each commute every day to work here.

All farmers have tough jobs. As others we work hard here to produce food and flowers that we are proud of. To be good stewards of the land. To welcome others onto this precious space and convey our passion for our work, and our wider mission to improve our food and farming systems.

It’s never been, nor is likely to be, easy. But working in this exceptional team makes it possible. And joyful. Thank you all.

What a night we had!

Yesterday evening we invited our beautiful community of volunteers and veg bag subscribers to celebrate Samhain (pronounced Sow-wein), an ancient Celtic festival marking the transition between the lighter half of the year and the darker half.

With excellent music from The Quaggy River String Band, two roaring fires, warm soup, cake and even some dancing, we came together to connect and celebrate the changing seasons.

Thanks to you all for being part of this journey with us, but very special thanks must go to our exceptional volunteers who turn up week after week to steward this small but mighty bit of land with us.

We're delighted to be hosting two workshops with a focus on our gorgeous organic dried flowers, which have been drying and adorning our stock room ceiling all season, patiently waiting for their moment to shine.

On Sat 21 Nov (10am-12pm) we will be running our Natural Dried Flowers hands-on workshop at our organic farm, exploring the beautiful art of drying flowers. You’ll learn how to select, harvest, and dry flowers at their peak, using simple techniques that celebrate the colours and textures of the season. If you love having flowers at home and you're curious about how to dry and arrange your own, this course is for you! Spend a cosy morning, in an intimate group, learning together and making your own dried flower bouquet to take home.

Alternatively, if you'd like something slightly more festive we are running an Everlasting Wreath workshop on Sat 5 December (10am-12pm). Using a willow hoop base, we'll guide you through the process of crafting your very own seasonal wreath using our organically grown, naturally dried flowers from our farm - perfect for your home or as a handmade gift.

Expect a relaxed, hands-on session with plenty of inspiration, good conversation, and the chance to slow down and work with the textures, colours, and shapes of the season.

All materials are provided, and no experience is needed.

We have been bathing in October's golden light and relishing the cooler morning temperatures here on the farm. Knitwear is back on. Bring on the cosy season!

On that note, come along on Sunday 18 October to celebrate autumn's bounty. We will have our usual pop up farm shop selling our gorgeous beetroots, carrots, squash, chillies, aubergines and lots more for you to enjoy. We'll also have our beautiful organic flowers which are still blooming in the field, if you'd like to enjoy a seasonal bouquet for the last time this year before our fresh flower season comes to an end.

If that's not enough, we're also stocked up with winter plants for sale with some delicious seasonal brassicas for you to plant in your growing space. Come early before they sell out: 2 for £5 or 1 for £3

And, to top all of that off, the wider Woodlands Farm will be open for their extremely popular Apple Day. With food & craft stalls, tractor & trailer rides, lots of apples and cider for sale, as well as apple pressing, you'll have lots of fun! Entry is free but donations are very welcome. by @sitopiafarm

The seasons are shifting and it’s time to say a bitter sweet farewell to many of our crops here at the farm. But before it’s too late we’re going to save some seed from the plants that survived and thrived this brutal summer.

There are currently lots of bits of blue tape around the polytunnel, labelling the plants we’ve selected to save seed from.

Seeds are the tiny building blocks of our food system and saving them means keeping knowledge, biodiversity and growing power in our hands. There are lots of easy wins with seed saving and each year we’re trying to do more and more of it.

To share our learnings and encourage more of you to take seed into your own hands, we’re running a seed saving workshop at the farm next week.

Today we visited @sitopiafarm to chat all things fungi. And to see what mushroom growing techniques might work with their growing spaces. The good news is - and if we’re honest, it’s always good news - there are so many opportunities. From making the most of the humid and warm environments within the poly tunnels, to the shaded areas along the perimeter under the young oaks trees.

With plenty of wood chip, storage crates, fresh hardwood logs, a neighbouring orchard and curiosity and enthusiasm to hand - it’s just a question of what mushrooms to start with!

All super exciting and we can’t wait to see how it goes.

Do you have a space you want to incorporate mushrooms into? Drop us an email or DM and we can chat!

Mush love.

Last week we took the Café Jikoni team to visit one of our favourite suppliers, @sitopiafarm, a beautiful two-acre urban farm tucked away in Greenwich.

Sitopia is run by a brilliant team of just four women, growing vegetables, fruit and flowers with an extraordinary amount of care, graft and knowledge. Everything is grown organically, with regenerative and no-dig methods that work with the soil and nature. They are inspiring custodians of this beautiful and historic land.

Stevie and Ximena led us through the polytunnels and fields, tasting and talking as we went, and reminding us just how much work, patience and care is behind the produce that arrives in our kitchen.

We ended with lunch in the middle of the field, made lovingly with produce they had grown themselves. It was Edenic! by @sitopiafarm

On Saturday 19 September we will be fully opening our farm doors for our pop up shop and, as part of the Open House Festival 2026, hosting guided tours of our beautiful 2 acre organic farm, where we grow our wonderful veg and seasonal blooms.

We'll have lots of seasonal delights for sale including beetroots, tomatoes, runner beans, basil, parsley, kale and spinach. With dahlias, cosmos and zinnias for a beautiful bouquet.

Tours will be held at 11am and 1pm, (45mins - 1 hour) no tickets necessary, please just drop in. by @sitopiafarm

Want flowers that last without filling your home with plastic?

For Katie Christer from Sitopia Farm, drying the flowers you grow is a beautiful and more sustainable way to keep enjoying them long after their fresh blooms have faded. And unlike artificial flowers, they continue to capture something of the season they came from – and the memories attached to it.

In the full podcast episode, Katie shares the best flowers and seedheads for drying, simple ways to preserve their colour and shape, and ideas for turning them into seasonal wreaths and arrangements.
