Our Cuisine TasteCurators Sofia & Gwen Taquet checked in for the night at voco Queenstown. 🍴

“A newly transformed hotel in Queenstown, with thoughtfully designed spaces, touches of luxury, the most welcoming staff and a vibrant Mediterranean restaurant at its heart. This is @vocoqueenstown. For our latest @cuisinemagazine Taste Curators visit, we checked in for the night and took the closest seat in the house at @mozzarellaandco_qnt. At the Chef’s Table, Executive Chef Matias Valle brings an Omakase-style approach to Mediterranean dining, showcasing seasonal produce and influences from different cultures. With wines expertly paired by Eric, each course brought something new. Beautifully considered food, with a welcome that puts you at ease.

After dinner, our Mountain-View Suite awaited, with thoughtful finishing touches that made it extra special. Sauna time, a restful night and breakfast the next morning completed the experience.

A fresh chapter for a familiar Queenstown address, and an exciting new dining destination.”

SWEET POTATO BROWNIES 🍫🍠

We’ve been seeing these brownies everywhere, and we have to admit, we were a little sceptical. Sweet potato in brownies? But after giving them a go, we’re officially converted.

Rich, fudgy, chocolatey and surprisingly easy to make. A delicious little twist on the classic brownie.

Ingredients:

300g cooked sweet potato, mashed
3 eggs
150g brown sugar
90g butter, melted
75g cocoa powder
90g plain flour
1½ tsp vanilla extract
¾ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
20–30g dark chocolate, chopped

Method: Preheat oven to 170°C fan bake and line a square baking tin. Whisk together the eggs and brown sugar.
Add the mashed sweet potato, melted butter and vanilla, mixing until smooth. Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder and salt. Gently fold until combined. Spread the mixture into the prepared tin and scatter over the chopped chocolate. Bake for 25–35 minutes until just set. Allow to cool before slicing into squares.

Enjoy!

Cuisine TasteCurators Sofia & Gwen arrive curious, leave connected at Gibbston Valley Lodge & Spa.

“Set among the vines in the dramatic Kawarau Gorge, Gibbston Valley has long been synonymous with world-class wine. Now, with local chef Rob Boyd at the helm of its three restaurants, an exciting new culinary chapter is unfolding. Returning to Central Otago after an international career in Michelin-starred and leading restaurants abroad, Rob brings a philosophy rooted in seasonality, exceptional southern produce and a thoughtful partnership between food and wine.

Join us behind the scenes as we explore the flavours, people and spectacular Lodge setting that continue to make Gibbston Valley one of New Zealand’s most celebrated wine and dining destinations.

Beyond the kitchen, the Lodge offers a beautifully considered escape, from its luxurious private villas tucked among the vines to its award-winning spa. It’s a place to slow down and connect with the extraordinary landscape around you.

We were so fortunate to experience it all, with Managing Director Christina and Chief Winemaker Christopher taking us into the heart of the resort.

A very special thanks to Rob for an unforgettable dinner and a wonderful hands-on bread-making lesson. It was a highlight from start to finish, and a lovely insight into Rob’s approach in the kitchen.

To the whole Gibbston Valley Lodge & Spa team, thank you for making us feel so welcome. We certainly arrived very curious and left extremely connected. 🍷🥖✨”

Cuisine TasteCurators takes us to the heart of the Cardrona Valley.

At Cuisine-hatted Cardrona, Executive Chef Jack Foster takes us through his winter chef’s menu and a celebration of the season, the region and the exceptional produce on his doorstep.

And, of course, this is Cardrona Distillery, so the experience extends well beyond the plate, with beautifully crafted cocktails and spirits from the distillery woven through the afternoon.

This is exactly what our Cuisine TasteCurators series is about: getting closer to the people, places and ideas shaping the way we eat and drink in Aotearoa.

A huge thank you to Jack and the Cardrona team for a very special afternoon.
