Singapore pays for 1 in 5 of its government dollars with investment returns, not taxes. 🇸🇬

At our latest VIP masterclass, Prof. Dr. Stefan Morkötter (SGI-HSG) showed how a tiny city-state with no natural resources became one of the richest countries in the world.

A few things that stood out:
→ Temasek, the state’s investment arm, manages S$518bn
→ Singapore hosts 4,200 regional HQs, 3x more than Hong Kong
→ The Singapore dollar has beaten the euro and US dollar over 20 years

The lesson? Long-term planning, stability and patient capital pay off.

You paid CHF 50,000 into your pension fund. Then you lost the tax deduction.

A buy-in is deductible, but after one, the resulting benefits can’t be withdrawn as a lump sum for 3 years (Art. 79b BVG). Break that rule and the tax authorities can reclaim your deduction and tax the withdrawal on top. They also generally look at your entire 2nd pillar capital, not just the amount you bought in.

This matters most if you are close to retirement and plan to take a lump sum. The same 3-year wait applies to home ownership withdrawals (WEF), withdrawals when becoming self-employed and withdrawals when emigrating.

Your rule of thumb: make your last buy-in at least 3 years before you withdraw.

💾 Save this before you buy in. by @smart.purse

Most people learn about stocks by buying them. There is a calmer way.

In Smart mit Aktien, you practise with real market data first, so your first mistakes happen in a simulation and not in your savings.

Over 5 live sessions, Olga Miler and Michael Weiss show you how to find stocks, build a portfolio and read charts. You also get recordings, a small group (max 30) and 3 months of VIP coaching.

Starts Tuesday 27 October. The course is taught in German.
