Field report.

The Yeti has been spotted again. Not on our feed. He doesn’t do feeds.

He’s been out in the mountains, tracking down independent roasters most people never hear about. Sometimes he comes back with coffee. Sometimes with an invite. Occasionally with something we only make 20 of…

We don’t post those findings. We send them to Yeti Sightings, our new email list.

Join the expedition and you’ll get:
• Invites to events we don’t announce
• Early access to upcoming projects
• First dibs on limited SMPL products, before they disappear

Sightings are rare. We only email when he’s been seen.
One email address. That’s the whole process.

Link in bio. Bring boots.

Meet the fifth featured roaster in November’s SMPL box: @ekhayacoffeeroasters

Ekhaya Coffee Roasters is an independent specialty coffee roastery based in Strand, Cape Town. They started Ekhaya with a simple goal: to make really good specialty coffee approachable, exciting and accessible. They roast everything themselves in small batches, with a strong focus on quality, consistency and showcasing what makes each coffee unique. In 2024, they were recognised as South Africa’s Best New Roastery — an achievement the team is incredibly proud of!

Meet the next featured roaster in November’s SMPL box: @fond.sa

Fond was started when chef Alistair couldn’t find coffee he loved and decided to start roasting his own (naturally). During his time in Japan, he dove deeper into the world of coffee, refining his roasting and chasing the small nuances things that turn a good cup into a damn good one. Those experiments are now the coffee roasted at Fond: full of character and made to be enjoyed.

@legadocoffee are the next featured roaster you can expect in November's SMPL box. Read more about their story:

Legado Coffee Roasters was founded in 2010 by three passionate coffee lovers with a shared vision for exceptional coffee and good business. Their journey began with the discovery of one of South Africa’s original Diedrich coffee roasters, along with the knowledge and mentorship of its long-time owner, laying the foundation for the roastery they are today. “Legado” is Portuguese for “legacy,” a name that reflects their respect for the people, craft and stories behind every coffee. From their roastery in Stellenbosch, they carefully source and roast quality coffees with a light, nuanced approach that allows the unique character of each origin to shine through. Everything they do is driven by a continual pursuit of the perfect cup, from sourcing and roasting to the final brew.
