Today, I went to the Whitney Biannual and saw these two beautiful works that stuck with me. These works by Precious Okoyomon and Malcom Peacock were perfect for inspiration and representation in a subject matter ive been looking into and exploring recently.

I won’t go into full detail about my thoughts on here just yet as they will come up soon. However, these works brought a strong spotlight on my thoughts on how being black has an impact on every single aspect of our lives. This can be from small habits in caribbean immigrant households that are used to assimilate to how we are even perceived or treated unconsciously by our nonblack peers. It is an interesting concept that I would like to write about more. by @smuckerspuppet

Update on my casting positive!! This is my first actual positive and I plan to pour more :) I am extremely proud and excited to continue working on this project!

painting W.I.P. 🇭🇹 by @smuckerspuppet

“Disconnect”

Made with plaster gauze, airdry clay, stuffing, acrylic, fake blood and a bunch of trinkets

This piece is a sculpture based on my relationship with my body. This is specifically about how my disabilities affect how I see and feel things, especially in my body. Another thing is how autistic individuals tend to mirror and adapt parts of their close friends or relatives personalities. In the sculpture, the segments of the body are accompanied by trinkets and cotton filled with fake blood to keep a jarring and real aspect to it. The trinkets serve as small pieces of my friends to represent the personality aspect. On the brain, there are lyrics from the song “This Close” by Flyleaf, that perfectly describes the emotions I had while making this. by @smuckerspuppet

Self portrait wip🙏🏾 by @smuckerspuppet

p1 of my lexicon..

crush/limerence
14”x14”
acrylic

this is just one part of a 16 painting series that encapsulates my emotions as i see fit. each and everyone of them are very specific to the way i feel and process my emotions. no one emotion is the same and none are handled the same way.. by @smuckerspuppet
