The story of Mrs. Esther and her 15 year old is a typical exposé of the challenges and experiences of the young girls at many IDP camps in Nigeria. A reality where child marriage is seen as a means to survive against the pangs of poverty or a means to simply feed. Fortunately, this particular story ends with a smile as Mrs. Esther found light in knowledge, and this exemplifies the need for this sensitization. Her story is one of the many successes of the GEMS ARISE program Thank you @untrustfundevaw for making this possible by @soar.initiative
Helping minors understand the various ways they can be sexually exploited and abused online, is a critical part of their digital literacy and protection. That’s what Session 2 of our Click Smart Stay Safe workshop was all about. Learning couldn’t have been more engaging 😁🥰 by @soar.initiative
A breath of fresh air 🥰❤️ by @soar.initiative
MOTHERS, OUR GIRLS NEED MORE THAN PROTECTION. THEY NEED CONNECTION. ❤️ In a conversation with community women, we explored a critical question: Are we close enough to our daughters to know when something is wrong? In communal living, where children interact with many adults, protecting our girls from sexual violence takes more than telling them to be careful. It requires presence, open communication, attentive parenting, and the courage to break the silence. ❤️ Listen without judgment. ❤️ Stop comparing your daughter to other children. ❤️ Make time to connect, even when life is demanding. ❤️ Create a home where she can speak up without fear of blame or punishment. A girl who knows she can talk to her mother is better placed to seek help when something feels wrong. Mums, let’s raise daughters who know they are loved, heard, believed, and protected. Our silence can leave them vulnerable; our connection can help keep them safe. by @soar.initiative

🚩 RED FLAG ALERT! 🚩 Can you spot it before you click? 👀📱 Our Click Smart, Stay Safe journey has officially begun! 🎉 In our first session, “Can You Spot the Red Flag?”, our young Internet Detectives put their detective skills to the test, examining fictional online profiles, spotting suspicious behaviour and uncovering warning signs that could hide behind a friendly face or an attractive offer. And guess what? Not everyone with a nice profile has good intentions! 😅 🕵🏽‍♀️ Here are some red flag lessons our detectives took home: 🚩 Someone asking personal questions or rushing into private chats deserves a closer look. 🎁 Sometimes free gifts come with strings attached? 🤫 Requesting secrecy can be a warning sign, especially when someone wants to isolate you from people who care about you. 🎭 Not everything online is what it seems! Profiles, pictures, ages and identities can be fake. 🛑 Feeling pressured or uncomfortable? PAUSE! You don’t owe anyone your trust, personal information or pictures. Our biggest takeaway? Don’t just scroll. THINK! Don’t just trust. CHECK! And when something feels wrong, SPEAK UP! 💙🧡 📸 Swipe through for moments from our first session! This is just the beginning. More detective missions and digital safety lessons coming soon! Stay tuned. 👀 #ClickSmartStaySafe #SOARInitiative #InternetDetectives #ChildOnlineSafety #OCSEA DigitalSafety by @soar.initiative
