Views upon views along our June Gelände ride yesterday. We traversed the less-crowded north end of the Santa Ana Mountains all the way to an epic viewpoint overlooking the SoCal urban sprawl far below. Despite a couple of mishaps, it was a smashing day of exploring the wilds of OC with some great people. Thanks for coming out, folks! Thanks also to @silveradocanyonmarket for the great food, service and vibes at the beginning and end of our ride. We’ll be back for sure. Till next time, #makelifearide by @socal_motorrad
Attention @BMWMotorradUSA GS owners, here’s the plan for our next dirt excursion! What: Gelände Ride to the OC Mountains When: Sunday, 6/14 at 8 AM (Depart at 9 AM) Where: Silverado Market - 28192 Silverado Cyn Rd, Silverado, CA 92676 This month we’re heading to Sierra Peak in the Santa Ana mountains of Orange County. Gelände is German for terrain and the G in “GS” (Gelände Straße, or offroad/onroad), so let’s get our adventure bikes dirty as they were intended! Per our recent poll, it seems folks are itching for another intermediate level route, so be ready for a few challenges. This will not be beginner-friendly, as there will be steep climbs/descents and loose rocks and shale, plus optional singletrack sections for those inclined. Expect stunning views, engaging trails and some interesting historical sites along the way. We’ll meet at @silveradocanyonmarket for light bites and coffee at 8:00 before departing at 9. After reaching the peak, we’ll backtrack down the mountain (a distinctly different experience than the ride up) and return to Silverado Market for lunch and refreshments. Arrive with a full tank of gas. Proper dirt-ready tires and gear (especially off road boots) are required. See our “Gelände Guidelines” post for more relevant info. Riders must arrive at least 15 minutes before our 9:00 departure and be present for a pre-ride safety briefing. See you there, @bmwmotorrad owners! Finally got the gang together to follow through with last month’s canceled plans, starting with great coffee among fellow motorheads at @the.petrol.club TPC is the perfect spot to caffeinate before a ride, with artisanal coffee and light bites surrounded by rare and drool-worthy machinery, both inside and outside their walls. From there we enjoyed our Bavarian Motoräder on a wide variety of roads (and not-quite-roads), taking adventurous detours for an unexpected closure and a pop up cafe, before a delicious and well-earned brunch at @rainbowoaksrestaurant This ride unintentionally coincided with a couple of high profile moto events, but nonetheless, we had a nice turnout of great people who just wanted to get out for a chill day of throttle therapy. It’s always a pleasure sharing good times with fellow @bmwmotorrad enthusiasts. Thanks as always for coming out. Till next time folks, #makelifearide by @socal_motorrad
Attention @BMWMotorradUSA enthusiasts, here’s the plan for our May street ride. This is a makeup date for our rained-out April event. What: BMW Group Ride From South OC When: Sunday, 5/17 at 8:30 AM - Depart at 9:30 AM Where: The Petrol Club - 824 N El Camino Real, San Clemente, CA 92672 Join us as we head south and inland for a change, to check out a new motorsport themed cafe and ride some of the lesser-traveled backroads of western Riverside county before grabbing lunch. @the.petrol.club just opened the doors to their cafe with a vibe catering to discerning moto and auto enthusiasts. We’ll meet there from 8:30-9:30 before heading across Ortega Hwy and down into De Luz and Fallbrook. Our lunch destination will be at the always popular @rainbowoaksrestaurant After lunch, around 1:30 pm, there’ll be the option for more twisties for those inclined, or folks can head home from the convenient location just off the 15 freeway. All @BMWMotorrad owners are welcome! Show up with a full tank of fuel. Riders must arrive at least 15 minutes before departure and be present for the pre-ride safety briefing. Our rides are intended to be fun and safe for riders with at least intermediate level skill. That said, motorcycling is a dangerous activity. Attendees are responsible for their own safety. DISCLAIMER: By participating in this event you hereby agree to assume all risks and liability related to or resulting from this group function without regard to negligence. Sorry folks, but due to rain in the forecast tonight and tomorrow along our route, we’re going to cancel this month’s Caffeine and Canyons meet. Stay tuned for a makeup date. by @socal_motorrad

Another solid SoCal Motorrad Sunday. Fun day of hitting some great roads on our Bavarian getaway machinery and enjoying each other’s company over excellent coffee at @etiquettecoffee and to-die-for BBQ at @greenvalleysmokehouseca on each end of the ride. We had a good mix of new and old school bikes this time, including @mchellesworld putting miles on the brand new @bmwmotorrad R1300RS, courtesy of the @bmwmotoriverside demo fleet. She says she appreciated the effortless performance paired with comfy ergos and wind blocking fairing, especially on such a long route. Lighter than usual turnout this time, perhaps due to the fear of hot weather, but we took thorough advantage of the manageable headcount and cooler temps at elevation for a day of backroad bliss. After lunch, most folks realized how far they were from home and headed out, while a few us continued on to ride amongst the stunning poppy blooms of the Antelope Valley. Shoutout to @wheresmydriver for shooting the scene at our morning meetup. Thanks again to the familiar faces and new attendees for showing up and rolling out. Always a pleasure riding with fellow @bmwmotorradusa enthusiasts. Till next time folks, #makelifearide by @socal_motorrad
Attention @BMWMotorradUSA enthusiasts, here’s the plan for our next Caffeine and Canyons ride. What: BMW Group Ride Through the Angeles Natl. Forest When: Sunday, 3/15 at 9 AM - Depart at 10 AM. Where: Etiquette Coffee - 2406 E 8th St, Los Angeles, CA 90021 This month we’re meeting in DTLA at another outstanding new coffee spot before a ride to the north end of the Angeles National Forest with a lunch stop at a hidden gem of a smokehouse along the route. We’ll meet at @etiquettecoffee tucked into a quaint alleyway in the Arts District with a great vibe and even better espresso and light bites. Get there when they open at 9 am to allow time to enjoy their wares, chill and mingle before our 10 am departure. We’ll then take off to ride iconic canyon roads such as Angeles Crest Hwy, Angeles Forest Hwy, Spunky Canyon, Lake Hughes and more, with a lunch stop at @greenvalleysmokehouseca for some delicious BBQ. All @BMWMotorrad owners are welcome! Riders must arrive at least 15 minutes before departure and be present for the pre-ride safety briefing. Arrive with a full tank of fuel. Our rides are intended to be fun and safe for riders with at least intermediate level skill. That said, motorcycling is a dangerous activity. Attendees are responsible for their own safety. That’s a wrap on our first SoCal Motorrad Gelände off road ride! We had a great turnout of @bmwmotorradusa adventure riders from near and far, ready to tackle a diverse, challenging route. From our meet spot @klatchcoffee we headed straight for the trails of Lytle Creek and onto the demanding hills of Baldy Mesa. After traversing a ridgetop route above the Cajon Pass, we descended into Phelan and westward towards the high desert roads and forgotten paths of Crystalaire, where we enjoyed some high speed Dakar-style fun, punctuated by occasional rock fields and sand washes that kept us on our toes. A couple of attendees had to bow out early, but our sweep rider Chris Zurn was there to help get them going in the right direction and keep the rest of the pack together. Thanks Chris! A few riders laid their bikes down, but none were worse for wear. Some encountered equipment issues, but nothing that @bmwmotoriverside can’t fix. All in all, a great day with fellow @bmwmotorrad ADV enthusiasts, enjoying fun trails, gorgeous weather and sweeping vistas with solid people. Shoutout to @mchellesworld for rolling out to the meet spot and capturing the group departing. Thanks again, folks! Until next time, #makelifearide #socalmotorrad #bmwmotorcyclesofriverside #bmwmotorrad #spiritofgs by @socal_motorrad
As our first SoCal Motorrad Gelände Ride approaches, here’s a set of guidelines for an Intermediate Level route. 1. Mindset Honestly assess your offroad riding ability. This is not a ride for those who have never ridden in sand or rocks with a full size ADV bike. If your GS riding experience starts and ends with smooth dirt roads, sit this one out and join one of our upcoming easier rides. That said, there will be multiple bailout points along the route in case it gets too difficult for some riders. Think like an adventurer; employ a low risk, conservative, long distance mindset to ensure we all get to complete the ride without having to deal with/clean up another rider’s recklessness. We’re there to support each other if needed, but let’s minimize that need so we can all enjoy the day. Show up well rested and in good health. Be ready for sustained physical exertion. 2. Proper Gear At minimum, wear proper over-the-ankle off road boots. Pants with knee/shin protection and a jacket with upper body and back protection are highly recommended. Gloves and helmet are obviously required. 3. Packing and Preparation Items to bring: drinking water, a light snack, means of tire repair (plugs and air compressor/C02), basic tools (torx). Additional items recommended: zip ties, heavy duty tape, JB weld, first aid kit. Be sure your bike is in good working order ahead of time. Show up with a full tank of fuel. 4. Tires 50/50 offroad/onroad tires at minimum. The more aggressive, knobbier tread, the better, especially if your skills are on the lower end of intermediate. 5. Luggage Hard luggage is strongly discouraged. When (not if) you drop your bike on your leg, hard cases tend to snap leg bones. Soft luggage/tail bag/backpack highly recommended. Avoid overloading your bike. Weight increases offroad difficulty exponentially. 6. Accountability Riding motorcycles is dangerous and off pavement riding is inherently unpredictable. You are responsible for your own safety. Read and understand the full disclaimer in the event post. #socalmotorrad #bmwmotorradusa #bmwmotorcyclesofriverside by @socal_motorrad
Scoping out the conditions for this weekend’s @socal_motorrad high desert ride. With all the rain we’ve had, I’ve determined that this one’s going to be for upper intermediate to advanced off road riders only. Don’t be fooled by these pics of flat, hard ground. There will be sand, rocks and off camber, eroded sections that’ll test even experienced riders. But, the views and otherwise fun and flowing trails are worth it. IF you have the mettle. For the less-experienced GS riders, don’t fret. Our next one will be more novice oriented and we’ll provide off road instruction in the coming season. If you’re wanting to join the fun (trust me, you do) but don’t have a @bmwmotorradusa dirt scooter, just hit me up at @bmwmotoriverside and we’ll get you sorted. #socalmotorrad #bmwmotorradusa #bmwmotorrad #bmwmotorcylesofriverside by @socal_motorrad
Hey @BMWMotorradUSA GS and Scrambler owners, let’s hit the dirt! What: Gelände Ride to the High Desert When: Sunday, 3/1 at 9 AM (Depart at 9:30 AM) Where: Klatch Coffee - 3840 Sierra Ave, Fontana, CA 92336 “Gelände” is German for terrain and the G in GS (Gelände Straße, or offroad/onroad). With so many BMW ADV bikes out there and countless unpaved routes throughout SoCal, it’s time to add some dirt to our ride menu. We’ll meet from 9:00 - 9:30 at Klatch Coffee just off the 15 freeway before embarking on a half-day adventure from Lytle Creek to the high desert. We’ll end up at @wrightwoodbrewco around 1 PM for a hearty lunch. Our route will be mostly easy trails with a few sections that will demand intermediate-level off road skills. Recent storms have created unpredictable conditions, so this will not be a beginner friendly ride. Arrive with a full tank of gas. Proper dirt-ready tires (minimum 50/50 tread) and gear (especially off road boots) are required. Riders must arrive at least 15 minutes before departure and be present for a pre-ride safety briefing. See you there, @bmwmotorrad owners!
