Night ten: the final run

Thank you @kelley.media for capturing my final night in a way that can just about sum up the challenge itself.

For 10 days I ran 21.1km every night to raise money for @wearemobilise a part of @neddsuncomfortablechallenge As an ambassador for the challenge this year I had motivation like never before as well as a new community to share that with.

Thank you to my fellow ambassadors. A group that is now bonded by the drive to help others, but also push themselves for the better. I could not have achieved this without your support.

Family and friends you are amazing. Cannot thank you enough for the donations. The support. The conversations. The empathy. The running. The kind hearts you all had throughout the process itself.

And to the brands & businesses that helped me make this challenge bigger than just me. You contributed in such a variety of ways. Each is forever appreciated.

The journey to NUC was exciting & something I could never have dreamt of. During NUC, it was uncomfortable in ways I didn’t expect. I learnt so much & I am excited to try & process those learnings into what’s to come. I’m proud of myself body for what it achieved in what was mostly pain-free. I’m proud of my mind for taking every moment as an opportunity to keep going, even when it didn’t want to.

NUC 2026 is complete ✅

MY WHY

For @neddsuncomfortablechallenge 2026, I am running 21.1km every night for 10 days. Not only does this strike uncomfortable & fear for me. There’s a why & it’s not the distance.

In Australia approx 3.5 million people regularly run. Approx 1.9 of them are women. 78% percent of them are scared to run in the dark. 63% will avoid it all together.
More than 122,000 people are experiencing homelessness every night 44% of them are women. Women over the age of 55 is the most rapidly increasing group seeking homelessness support. If 78% of female runners are fearful of running in the dark. Imagine the women suffering from homelessness? Battling this fear. Exposed. Night after night.

Woman should not have to feel like this.

So not only am I running for females experiencing homelessness (and of course all others from all walks of life) I am making a statement for all women who are constantly faced with the risks of being out at night. Like homelessness, this fear should not exist!

I don’t know if this is achievable. 211km over 10 days. My body may not be capable. I’m working full time in a strenuous job. I’m scared to run in the dark. It’s going to be uncomfortable, but that’s what it’s about. I’m going to try. I’ll show up every day for that 10 days and give it my all. @neddbrockmann wants two things. To end homelessness & get people uncomfortable. What a genius to put two and two together.

18-29th October Raya runs a half marathon every night for 10 days. Get around it!
(I’m keen to get people together during this process too! Message me if you’re keen to join for a run, no matter how far or you want to know more. Hey! Even start your own uncomfortable challenge)

LETS FUCKING GO!

sydney marathon

42.2km
I gave myself two options: chase sub-4 & dig into the hurt or enjoy this marathon however long it takes.
I did both.
I smiled (the crowd was unreal), laughed (the signs were next level good), sang, danced, cried (happy tears), & I ran fuckn sub-4!
sydney mara you were everything.

sydney you put it on 🌞

no headphones were needed 😝 the atmosphere was incredible!

@neddsuncomfortablechallenge LFG!

one of fourty-thousand felt special #40547

this smile never left

the scenery was everything!

respect for the boys getting their tan on

like I said. smile went no where

can you live in your car & travel the country for six weeks while training for a marathon? I proved you can.

@jayden.headon only here for the coffee (put him to use & made him backpack guy) - forever appreciative of how much easier this made my day 🫶

Despite preparing for it, didn’t have to question myself once, especially when this is what I opened my phone to.

NUC Legends showed up 🥺 the best 🫶

core memory. her first world major 💗

someone say sub 4? (also yochi & grilld after was to good 😮‍💨)

why was leaving the finishers area hillier than the course?! by @some_goodrandr

Camp NUC 2026

No singular word can describe the emotion behind seeing, listening, & watching a room full of people who are fucking crazy…but crazy with hearts of gold. All with the same mission. To end homelessness.
I arrived unsure of my place amongst 44 others. How can a 20 year old from a small town with little social media presence or crazy achievements be chosen for such an opportunity. That didn’t last long around these legends. I left with a new family.
It’s rare to meet one person with similar goals & motivations as you. I met over 45 of them. These people, of all ages, close & far, & all walks of life are some of the coolest, most joyful, energetic & kind people you could meet.
Marking halfway my solo trip exploring Australia. To say it was the perfect way to spend it would be an understatement. My cup is so full. So thank you to my fellow NUC Ambassadors. You have inspired me & made an impact on my life I will always cherish.💗

Now for the amazing team, mission & organisers who made this possible. From the moment I received the email, the effort put in to make this trip comfortable & successful was seen & appreciated more than I can say. @neddsuncomfortablechallenge & @wearemobilise thank you for this amazing opportunity & sharing it with us. The work you do is outstanding & I hope we can continue this work in a whole new light.
@pumaau & @coros_anz for the kit out of shorts, tees, a watch & more. I could not be more thankful I get to wear my mission proudly. Then @pillarperformance for fueling our City2Surf but now my Sydney marathon. Thank you all for believing in NUC & getting right behind them.
@jetstaraustralia apologies for the flight issues & I made your Saturday morning a headache but your kindness & assistance to get me to Sydney was greatly noticed & appreciated.
@burstycompany you guys are awesome! I had the pleasure to speak with many of you & despite the tireless hours you were putting in. You stopped to chat anyways & always had a smile on your faces.
@gg_australia thank you for taking the time to speak with us.

Cheers to the trip of a lifetime, now the work begins. LFG!

the beauty in doing what you love. running has given me so much 💗

My growth running & even life in the last 6 months. Surreal to look back on & even more excited looking forward.

Even more so, my running is giving people the ability to sleep safely at night.

Not long now and I’ll be running 21.1km every night for 10 days to raise money for @wearemobilise a part of @neddsuncomfortablechallenge

And just like that…there’s only one to go… @neddsuncomfortablechallenge

Night nine I don’t think I could ever describe unless you are ready to sit with me and chat for hours.
After a few days of pain in my left Achilles, my amazing physio snuck me in for a last minute appointment. The assumption is I have Achilles paratenonitis. We taped it up to make it though.
Started the run quite solid. Held a quicker but still comfy pace. Running off “vibes” and that couldn’t have been more true. I enjoyed the first 15km’s sending voice memos to @blueyruns 🤣 but also soaking in the last 8 days I’ve just experienced. The last 5km the body started to cramp and it was the closest thing I’ve felt to pain this whole challenge. Something normally I would be obsessing over, where nothing would help and all I’d want to do is stop running.
This time was different. I caught myself paying attention to the music. I started singing. Started dancing. The pain was still there but I didn’t care. I kept running and just enjoyed every moment. That’s the simplest way to put it, but really it feels so much deeper than that.
My relationship with running is so much more than just fitness. It showed.

On another note. I did experience fear while running last night. I found more than any night over these 10 days. I looked over my shoulder. I flinched at unusual sounds. I felt the exact reason I was running in the dark.
I felt with my walls down I was exposed and therefore fearful of what was possibly around. A feeling too many women experience. So on top of being uncomfortable and raising money for homelessness. It was for me and all women who feel that fear when the sun goes down.

Again, I could talk for hours and still not truely describe last night and my minds reflection of it. It was one of a kind.

How lucky am I to feel that!

Now, one more night. One more run. 10 days of 21.1km for @wearemobilise

Let’s get it done!

Less than $100 to 100 nights of housing! Let’s get there! (Link to donate in bio 🔗) by @some_goodrandr

Night 8 of @neddsuncomfortablechallenge done.

This one was mental over physical. I’ve been very fortunate to run with little physical pain, so the weather was the test. The wind and rain was so much worse than the night before getting up to 55/km/h gusts and constant rain during the run.

The headwind was so strong every step felt like a mission. My hat, shoes and clothes were drenched adding weight I did not want. My body is struggling to take on fuel and I’ve pretty much lost my appetite. I knew the weather would be better in the arvo so it was a fighting battle to not let myself “do it later”

Something that weirdly helped was some good modern country music 🤣 as well as knowing what I would see at the finish line. My mum and her amazing @reachingheartsptyltd team along with @sistasacaiandcoffee there waiting for me. Even in the rain they all stood there and we just chatted and laughed the morning away over some good coffee. Could not thank SISTAS enough. You have done so well creating such an amazing business but also a community with it.

Post run, noticed a big Achilles flare up on my left side so we might be in for more of a physical battle these last two days.
We also hit $3000 raised for @wearemobilise !!! Thank you to everyone who’s donated and shared already 💗

TWO NIGHTS LEFT. LETS F*CKING FINISH IT OFF 🚀 by @some_goodrandr

NIGHT SIX of running 21.1km every night for 10 days for homelessness.
Man was I happy to tick this one off. Well over the halfway mark now and was able to run knowing I’ve got the weekend to recover & get the most rest for the final push. Also massive thanks to @raised.thebar for fuelling my run!
Felt pretty good for majority. Massive appreciation for @kurt.pritchard who joined me for the night. Only in the last 3km did my feet & blisters say no & we had to dig a bit deeper.
A crazy time in the @neddsuncomfortablechallenge world currently with @blueyruns just finishing 122km! @samflannery_ is currently swimming for 24hours! @therotto600 is well into their 600km! @tonedbytaylah is on day 9 with an Olympic tri around the corner! @shavliss_xx smashed a speedy 20km on her day 6 @elovell_ is killing her 122km.
