POSTS STORIES REELS
Three years ago, my partner, Sophia, packed up everything with me, moved to Colorado, enrolled in one of the best behavioral analysis programs in the country at Florida Institute of Technology, and kept working every single day for kids who needed her. Before any of that, it started in a high school classroom. A free period got filled with her being a teacher’s aid for a special needs class. Little did she know, she would find her passion in 9th grade. She babysat some of those kids outside of school. She still keeps in contact with one of those families to this day. While studying at Texas A&M for her bachelors degree in psychology, she took a job as an in-home aid for $9 an hour because the work she did mattered more than the paycheck! This is where we met and this is where I saw the enormous amount of love she had for others. While studying for her masters in Behavioral Analysis, she worked for SOAR Autism Center and continued to change lives of children with special needs. She came home with bumps, bruises, bite marks, and once, a bloody nose. She always said she was ready to go back the next day. She spent years at SOAR Autism Center logging thousands of supervised clinical hours, earning promotion after promotion, and staying humble the entire time. I’d tell her she was already an expert. She’d say “not yet.” Today, she is. Sophia passed her Board Certified Behavior Analyst exam. An exam with a 50% pass rate, and she did it in a field that uses 80% as the benchmark for mastery because that’s what they use to measure when a child has truly learned a skill. She cleared her own bar. Sophia has been changing the lives of kids who struggle in their own unique ways since she was a teenager. Now, she will be the expert and change lives as someone who has a few years as an RBT, but over a decade of love for the work she does and the people she cares for. BCBAs teach kids to communicate. They help them regulate their emotions. They stop kids from hurting themselves. Without beautiful individuals like Sophia, those struggles get worse. (Continued in comments) by @sophiaaolson

Over 26 miles of backpacking.feet covered in blisters. 8 new aggies (whoop!) gallons of lake water filtered. a stupid number of steps that even my watch couldn’t count & ….0 showers🙃 // This summer I was given the opportunity to welcome some dope freshmen to the aggie family while experiencing all of this crazy together! ;) Being a mentor for Aggie Venture Camp was definitely not what I expected for me this summer, but turned out to be a whim of the moment ‘yes’ that i’m big time grateful for. … okay well actually it was more of a “yolo” that was spoken & yea i’m bringing yolo back✨🌈 here are some of my grand take aways from this trip! - baby wipes showers are super dope - sleeping in tents is underrated - if you offer freshmen jolly ranchers as compensation, they will set up your tent - dehydrated eggs are a brave mans game and require professional chefs to make correctly. do not recommend - im short & backpack was heavy - women in stem is a life mantra by @sophiaaolson
