The Problem with Wishes by Hazel Calder

Some books make you wonder what you would wish for if a genie suddenly appeared in front of you. The Problem with Wishes made me wonder something else—what if getting what you wished for wasn't necessarily the answer?

Scarlett is at a point where her career, relationship and expectations of herself aren't quite falling into place. Then Sahir enters her life in the most unexpected way, bringing a little magic—and quite a bit of chaos—with him. What follows is a light-hearted journey where Scarlett gets the opportunity to look at her choices from a completely different perspective.

I really liked the way the story balances the magical premise with very relatable emotions. Scarlett's desire to prove herself and find her own way gives the story more substance than just a straightforward genie-and-wishes romance. And Sahir? He definitely brings the charm. Their conversations and growing bond were some of my favourite parts of the book.

I did have one tiny question, though—how exactly did Sahir end up inside a vintage perfume bottle that was meant for a PR project? 😂 I have absolutely no explanation for that one, so I'll simply assume Scarlett has spectacular karma and choose to enjoy the story rather than overthink the logistics!

Overall, this was a fun, breezy read with romance, humour and just enough magic to make an ordinary-life story feel a little more whimsical. A good pick when you're looking for something easy-going and entertaining.

If you could have one wish granted instantly, would you choose something you desperately want—or something you secretly need? by @sourindita

Best of Witchcraft and Sorcery — Saptarshi Chatterjee

There’s something wonderfully unsettling about a book that makes you question whether you actually understood what you just read.

Best of Witchcraft and Sorcery, selected and edited by Saptarshi Chatterjee, took me into that exact space. I picked it up expecting witches, spells and the usual supernatural fare, but what I found was a collection that is much more interested in the mystery surrounding the unknown than in simply frightening its readers.

I especially enjoyed the introductory section because it changed the way I approached the stories that followed. Witchcraft here isn't presented through one fixed definition. Depending on the story, it can feel like forbidden knowledge, an expression of power, an act of rebellion, or simply something humans encounter when they venture beyond what they understand.

And because this is an anthology, the experience keeps shifting. Some stories were atmospheric and quietly creepy, while others had that strange, dreamlike quality where you aren't quite sure whether you should be looking for an explanation—or accepting that there may not be one. I liked that ambiguity. The stories don't always spoon-feed their meaning, and that made several of them linger in my mind after I had finished reading.

The book also has a wonderfully eerie visual identity. That striking blue, skeletal figure on the cover feels like a pretty accurate warning about the kind of world waiting inside. 😅💙

Overall, this was an intriguing read for anyone who enjoys classic weird fiction, folklore and supernatural stories that leave a little room for interpretation. It isn't just about witches; it's about our fascination with everything we cannot explain. by @sourindita

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Headline: A high-octane mystery that hits with incredible emotional force 🌆💥

Jay Divyam’s debut novel None of Us Are Strangers is a phenomenal ride that effortlessly bridges the gap between white-knuckle suspense and deep, heartfelt drama.

The story takes off when Veer Mehra, an ordinary guy who only went to a high-society Mumbai event to grab free food, gets asked to watch a four-year-old girl named Aaruhi for a few minutes. When the mother vanishes into thin air, Veer is pulled into a relentless web of corporate corruption, long-buried secrets, and dangerous cover-ups. Watching Veer transform into an fiercely protective father figure while confronting his own childhood abandonment trauma creates an unforgettable narrative arc.

The author captures the atmospheric contrast of Mumbai brilliantly, balancing glittering elite parties against a gritty, deceptive underbelly. Supported by a stellar cast including his loyal friend Sahil, the sharp and unpredictable Ani, and Seema leading a refreshing, relentless investigation, every character adds distinct value to the plot. The twists are completely unhinged and will shatter every theory you try to build until the final reveal.

It is a gripping, fast-paced thriller that never loses its human soul. A must-read for mystery lovers!

Some stories begin with a crime.
Some begin with a disappearance.
And some begin with a secret that refuses to stay buried. 🖤

None of Us Are Strangers pulled me into a world of shadows, unanswered questions, and people who may not be strangers after all.

The kind of thriller that makes you look twice at every character and wonder just how much they’re hiding.
And that feeling when you reach the end and suddenly start connecting the dots? Exactly why I love a good mystery. 👀

What are you reading today? by @sourindita

The Offline Hours was one of those books I had to read slowly. Not because it was difficult to get through, but because I found myself pausing after almost every chapter, sitting with the emotions it brought up.

The way human emotions were explored here felt so real and relatable. Sia's nostalgia, especially, took me back to my own childhood and reminded me of how my mother used to be when I was growing up. And when Rhea left home, I found myself remembering similar emotions—watching my own parents go through something similar, while fighting my own feelings inside.

And yet, I was never bored. Not even once did I feel like the story wasn't working for me—which, as someone with rather unpredictable moods, is honestly rare. 😆

I carried this book to my office almost every day, even on days when I barely had time to read. Somewhere along the way, it became a little anchor. By the end, I felt like I had actually come to know these characters.

I especially loved the growth of Rhea and Jay, and even Anjali, who quietly became a stronger version of herself with time. And the closure? Beautifully done. It felt satisfying without losing the emotional honesty of the journey.

Loved reading this one. Some books entertain you while you're reading them. Some quietly become a part of your days for a while. The Offline Hours was the latter for me. 💛📖

✨ QOTD: Has a book ever made you pause and remember a version of your own life? Which book was it? by @sourindita

It has been a week since I turned the last page, and somehow, I am still thinking about this book.

Some stories end when the pages do.

Some quietly follow you afterwards—into familiar streets, empty cafés, rainy evenings, and moments you didn't expect them to occupy.

And then there are lines like this—
“तुम्हारे बिना शहर खाली नहीं लगता, बस थोड़ा कम अपना लगता है।”

The kind you don't simply read.
You feel them.

#qotd : Has a book ever made you look at a familiar place—or person—differently after you finished it? Tell me which book. I'd love to know. 🤍

Perhaps that is the most beautiful thing about stories...we close the book, but sometimes, the story quietly keeps a part of us open. ✨📖 by @sourindita

Just finished this one yesterday, and I’m still nursing the hangover. 🥹📖

Like the author says in one of its chapters, my heart is still unable to let go of the lines of this book.
Some stories end when you turn the last page. Others quietly linger, leaving pieces of themselves behind—in your thoughts, your heart, and in the strange little silence that follows.

And this one? I’m clearly not over it yet. 🤎
