Saw this post today and couldn't help but share. This was from an account in Japan. I asked if it was taken from habitat and I said it doesn't look seed grown. There is a huge black market for rare plants and unfortunately south east Asia is a major consumer and poacher. I remember here in California several years back there was a South Korean group stealing Dudleya Farinosa and shipping them by the box load back to Korea. These plants all play a pivotal role I. Their respective ecosystems. Only buy from reputable sources.

Just got this box full of awesomeness from @verdantlyfe that made my day. 2 awesome succulents, a plant journal, pen, care instructions and a sweet laser-cut plant stake. Check them out. They have been featured on t.v. for a reason! I mistakenly said they were on USA today but meant The Today Show.

Echeveria "Rico" put all of it's energy into flowering. After I filmed this I cut the flower stalks, removed the lower leaves and flower buds and as soon as they callous I am planting them to produce pups.

I got an 8 inch Euphorbia Horrida Major Nova from Home Depot many years ago and separated all the pups. This is one of the pups and now it has its own pups it's so exciting to see your children grow up and have their own children I'm a grandfather!

Euphorbia horrida "Major Nova" (often called the African milk barrel) is a striking, large-growing succulent variety known for its distinctive appearance and biology.

Interesting Facts

• Convergent Evolution (Not a Cactus): Though it looks almost identical to a New World barrel cactus, Euphorbia horrida belongs to the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae). It evolved similar water-storing ribs and spines independently through convergent evolution.

• Thorns from Dried Flower Stalks: The rigid, formidable spines lining its ribs are not true plant spines or from areoles; they are the persistent, hardened remnants of old flower stalks (peduncles).

• Ice-Blue Color & White Striping: The "Major Nova" variety features a thick, deep blue-ice or blue-green body, sometimes accented with distinct white-and-green vertical striping along its prominent ribs.

• Wavy Ribs with Age: As the columnar or barrel-like plant matures, its rigid ribs tend to twist and develop a wavy pattern.

• Milky Toxic Latex: Like other members of the Euphorbia genus, it exudes a thick, milky-white sap when damaged. This latex is poisonous and can cause severe skin, eye, or mouth irritation.

• The "Nova" Designation: The "Nova" tag denotes a newer, larger, or currently un-formalized variant of the E. horrida var. major lineage prized by collectors for its fat, sturdy stature.

• Subtle Summer Blooms: It produces tiny, inconspicuous yellowish-green flowers (cyathia) at the very apex of the plant during the summer months.

The Tiger's Jaw succulent (Faucaria tigrina) is a unique, low-growing plant native to the dry rock hillsides of South Africa.

Interesting Facts

Soft "Teeth": Despite looking fierce and spiky like a miniature predator, the white, thread-like projections along the leaf margins are completely soft, flexible, and harmless to touch.

Water-Catching "Teeth": The serrated leaf edges help trap moisture from the air and dew in its arid native habitat where rain is rare.

Daylight-Loving Flowers: It produces large, bright yellow, daisy-like flowers (sometimes white or pink) that typically open in the afternoon sun and close up in the evening or on cloudy days.

Interlocking Leaves: New leaf pairs emerge from the center of the rosette with their edges interlocked like a trap, eventually opening up wide as they mature.

Pet and Human Safe: Unlike many household plants, Faucaria tigrina is non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans.

Part of the "Living Stones" Family: It belongs to the Aizoaceae plant family, making it a cousin to famous camouflage succulents like Lithops (living stones).

Color-Changing Foliage: The thick, triangular leaves shift in color—ranging from gray-green to pinkish-red or purple—depending on how much sunlight and stress the plant receives.
