It’s back! ✨ The Annual Sow True Seed Book Sale is here once again! For this week only, take 25% off ALL books and puzzles, including our staff favorites, as well as new titles.

Don’t miss out on finding your next winter read! 📚💛 by @sowtrueseed

It’s been a while since we’ve re-introduced ourselves, and we’ve grown a bit this past year! 🌱

For all of the new folks here, we are a small (just 11 of us!) employee-owned cooperative that offers a curated selection of open-pollinated seeds, bulbs, live plants, growing supplies, and more. Our work is rooted in making gardening approachable for growers of all skill levels, novice or experienced. More than seeds, we want to help you feel connected, capable, and rooted — especially in a time when many of us feel cut off from nature, food, and community. We are based in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, working out of a 4,000 SF building that is part warehouse - part office - part garden shop open five days a week.

And as an employee-owned co-op, we operate under a flat management structure where all voices are heard. Our employees here are integral parts of the ecosystem that is Sow True Seed. We pay our employees a living wage and are working every day to make sure we maintain a sustainable and satisfying place to work. Most of us here wear many hats, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thank you for being here with us! 💛 by @sowtrueseed

🦋 CATALOG COVER REVEAL! 🦋

It’s that time! Our 2027 catalog is being sent off to the printers today, so it’s just natural to introduce our new beautiful cover by artist Courtney Farquharson (@mudpuppymoon)

Courtney is a Tennessee raised printmaker currently practicing out of Chatham, Illinois. Primarily self-taught, Courtney works in linoleum block prints which is a form of relief printmaking where images are carved in reverse on a block of linoleum, inked and pressed into paper in multiple layers to create the final image. Fascinated with visual storytelling, each piece contains dense imagery celebrating the magic of familiar animals, forgotten places and secret folklore found in the everyday moments of life.

We are big printmaking fans here at Sow True, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have this piece for our new cover. We hope you love it as much as we do! Swipe to see the full original piece, that will be featured on upcoming merch. 🐻

We are still shipping 2026 catalog through the end of the month, but come November 1st you can request your new one. 🎉 by @sowtrueseed

🍂 November is here! For those of you in zone 7, now is the time to get ready for the colder months ahead!

Before we put our garden to sleep for the winter, it’s a good time to take inventory of what maintenance your garden still needs. Weeding, mulching, row cover for season extension, harvesting carrots or kale, and so forth. There’s also still time to plant garlic, shallots, spring flowering bulbs, and flowers like poppies and hollyhock that require cold stratification. 🥶

And of course, now is the perfect time to browse for a new book for winter! Take advantage of the cozy days ahead and get some inspiration for next year’s garden with 25% off books at Sow True Seed, this week only!

🌞 🎃 Our team spent a beautiful fall day out at whipoorwill farm with @fontaflorabrew where we helped them process and roast these beautiful North Georgia candy roaster squash. These squash were grown on their farm with Sow True’s heirloom seeds and are now on their way to becoming a limited release beer!

While the squash roasted on the fire, we got a tour of the brewery, learned about its history as a dairy farm, and all about the processes of making beer. We love Fonta Flora’s unique mission of bringing small-scale agriculture back to the beer industry, and couldn’t imagine a better collaborative partner for this exciting new endeavor.

Stay tuned for updates! What other Sow True Seed crops do you think would make a tasty beer!? 🍺 by @sowtrueseed

Join us for another great in-person class coming up in a couple weeks! 🌾

Wednesday, October 7th from 5-6 pm we’ll be talking cover crops, and how they can improve soil health, manage nutrients and support biodiversity in your home garden. 🌱

In this class led by Mark Dempsey, we’ll discuss how to use cover crops on a smaller scale with basic hand tools, tarps, or small crimpers. We’ll look at matching specific cover crops to your goals. Whether that’s adding nitrogen, smothering weeds, or erosion control, cover crops can help!

Instructor Mark Dempsey is the Organic Technical Service Provider at CFSA helping farmers implement conservation practices and organic management. He is a cover crop specialist and worked for many years as a researcher studying soil microbiology, weed science and cover crop management in organic no-till production. He will soon wrap up a PhD in plant breeding at Clemson.

Just a handful of spots left! Get yer tickets now. 🎟️ by @sowtrueseed
