The Booze Lounge🎶

A library for an extensive bourbon collection. The shelving concept came from the ceiling’s Fornasetti’s cocktail wallpaper. We designed shelves in the same staggered design that can be found in the wallpaper to house the collection.

The clients had fallen in love with Sulking Room Pink by @farrowandball and we used it in a modern eggshell on the cabinets and shelving.

Lighting by @jonathanadler chandelier and 2 left handed torcheres (both husband and wife are left handed!) .

The two club chairs are danish vintage covered in a modernist fabric by designtex and modernist sofa gives this room a cozy bar vibe. A vintage poster hangs in the niche.

Cabinetry was designed by our studio and expertly executed by @bargeboardnola with integrated lighting.

Window shades by Spruce fabric from @custhom and @JFFabrics
Custom pillows fabric by @libertyfabrics via @fabricut

This creole cottage renovation involved several rooms and complete interior architecture, space planning and moving walls while still maintaining historic integrity. More on this in next posts.

Number 3: Santorus Wallpaper-Bibelots

Welcome to the world of the weird and wonderful with this curious collection of tiny trinkets and outstanding ornaments. This library of surprises was collated by sorcerers past and present and delves into the mysterious minds of scientific discovery. The mahogany theme brings a traditional appeal to this wallpaper, which when mixed with modern meddling’s adds interest to any room.

♥️Number 5 : Blackthorn by Morris & Co.

In folklore, the Blackthorn tree is known as both the Mother of the Woods and the Dark Crone of the Woods, the dark face of the triple goddess of the moon. Blackthorn is used in spells of protection. Blackthorn is the tall hedge grows around Sleeping Beauty’s castle, forming the thick, impenetrable bramble that hides the magic castle from the unworthy.

📍Find your Blackthorn Wallpaper at Spruce Showroom on Magazine Street in New Orleans.

🖤Countdown to 6 days to Halloween🖤

♥️Number 6: THE SHINING remains at the top of a Halloween list of movies but as designers we are always wondering -
Where did the crazy carpet in come from?

Based on available information, there are no documented notes from the production team, Stanley Kubrick’s archivists, or anyone involved in The Shining regarding where the iconic carpet was sourced.

Apparently the original designer appears to be David Hicks, celebrated interior and fashion designer who began creating bold, dramatic patterned carpets in the 1960s. His design, the “Hicks Hexagon,” was either purchased off the shelf for the Overlook Hotel set or custom-made as a copy for the movie.

♥️🖤The wallpaper shown here by Cole and Son is also called Hick’s Grand Hexagon after the same iconic designer. Hicks used strong, repeating geometric shapes—such as hexagons, octograms, chevrons, stripes, and zigzags—on carpets, wallpaper, upholstery, and ceilings to organize spaces and create visual rhythm. His iconic Hicks Hexagon pattern remains world-famous.

Either way, it is easy to see why it was selected—it makes a strikingly eerie statement in those long hotel corridors!

To purchase this iconic wallpaper, drop us a line at Sprucewallpaper.com or make an appointment to visit us at our showroom on historic Magazine Street.

📣Press Mention📣
We were delighted at our feature in the Fall St. Charles Avenue Magazine.
A big Thank you to Andy Myer, Editor, for reaching out to us to feature this special project. Melanie Warner Spencer wrote beautifully as usual bringing soul to the story, thank you.

This project embodies our design philosophy:

“Cultural Modernism”
Amplify your culture rather than minimize it.

We highlighted our clients extensive travel, their sophistication and their thoughtful art collection. Their home reflects their love for the vibrancy of New Orleans while still staying connected to an international point of view.

A big thank you to the Barneys for trusting us with their vision, to my team without whom I cannot be my best- our lead designer Sarah Allee-Walsh’s keen eye and our logistics team, Ericka Moreira and our contractor Javier Reyes and his crew.

Good design starts with a vision, leads with trust and ends with seamless execution.

Volume 14 | @spruceshowroom @nomitajoshi

Nomita Joshi has built two complementary businesses that work seamlessly together.

At Spruce, a destination for wallpaper, fabric, and Farrow & Ball paint, bespoke services in color, drapery, bedding, and upholstery transform spaces from drab to distinctly refined.

Paired with Nomita Joshi Interiors, a full-service AD PRO design firm known for modern interiors with a nod to history, the result is layered, thoughtful spaces that feel both current and timeless.

For Volume 14, we brought the two together in one image, highlighting a beautifully designed space and a standout wallpaper installation. by @spruceshowroom
