"Your right to vote is your God-given right. Make sure you use it."

The district was honored to participate in tonight's unveiling at Unity Park in downtown Starkville commemorating the installation of a Mississippi historic marker for "The First Black Legislators" from Oktibbeha and Clay Counties. The unveiling is the first in a series around the state. Starkville High School senior and internationally award-winning thespian, Kylin Ellis, performed a monologue sharing about the lives of Black legislators, Anderson Boyd, Benjamin Chiles, David Higgins, Randle Nettles and J. Wesley Caradine.

What a treat to see Kylin bring to life the legacy and significance these men contributed to our county and our state! Great job!

Faithfully serving the #JacketFamily and schools across the community through prayer! We spotted this Wednesday prayer group at Sudduth this morning. Group members from various churches visit a different school each week. Thank you for sharing this wonderful blessing! by @starkvillesd

Can’t let a #JacketMusicMonday go by without sharing a beautiful chapter in the district’s longstanding partnership with the Starkville-MSU Symphony Association. Our 7th and 8th grade treble singers joined the Symphony Community Chorus concert tonight in performing John Rutter’s Mass of the Children. Enjoy a few moments of the fourth movement “Agnus Dei” featuring words from William Blake’s poem, “The Lamb”. by @starkvillesd

This week, Millsaps hosted our 9th graders for a CTE Preview Day featuring hands-on activities, and an introduction to the 2-year pathways available for students. Millsaps student ambassadors and CTE instructors hosted rotations where freshmen could ask questions and experience some of the career-centered learning experiences that are part of the classes.

Through our Career and Technical pathways, students gain real-world experience, earn national certifications, and relevant training. From unmanned aviation and health sciences to construction and digital media, these courses can help Jackets bridge the gap between academics and their next steps after high school.

Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District has earned an A-rating from the Mississippi Department of Education for the THIRD YEAR in a row based on state test scores from the 2025-2026 Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP). The district increased its overall score by 24 points as compared to 2024-2025 scores on the state’s accountability model to maintain its “high-performing” status.

“I am extremely proud of our students, teachers and administrators for their hard work and for the consistent effort and determination that goes into ensuring our boys and girls are growing academically every day,” said Dr. Tony McGee, SOCSD Superintendent. “Earning an A-rating for the third year reflects the commitment to excellence of our entire team as well as our families. It shows that the district is on a consistent trajectory to establish A-rated excellence as the standard in Starkville.”

CONGRATULATIONS to Overstreet Elementary-5th Grade and West Elementary School for earning individual school A ratings! We’re proud of you!

Jacket Parents, make plans to join us for our Parent Teacher Conference Day across the district on Monday, October 19. Watch for sign-up links from your individual schools for time slots throughout the day — 7:30am - 3:30pm. Conferences are a great opportunity to meet with teachers about your students’ academic progress this school year and find out ways you can help at home.

Students will not report to school on Monday, October 19. by @starkvillesd

When some of our favorite Dawgs come to visit… last Friday MSU Football players, Kamario Taylor and Fluff Bothwell stopped by Ms. Mullins’ 6th grade math class to hear about their project this season recording, tracking and charting Bulldog player stats from each game. Teams chose their favorite players and have worked together to keep up with their statistical performance on the field — adding a little real-world #HailState fun to math class. The players surprised our students with custom cowbells and tickets to tomorrow’s SEC battle vs Alabama. THANK YOU to Kamario and Fluff for giving our students this unforgettable experience! by @starkvillesd
