In the biggest plot twist EVER, I officially became an American Airlines pilot yesterday!! I truly didn’t think this past year could get any better, but it did.

As you know, I was a previous Delta employee and was in a program to become a Delta pilot. They ended up dissolving my program and forced their employees to fly for an extended amount of time at their regional airline. While I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Captain for Endeavor Air, it was becoming clear that big Delta was hiring so many people from competitor regional airlines that my chances of making Captain at Delta one day were dwindling.

However, that was not my final deciding factor. Last year when there was scrutiny on DEI hiring, Delta pulled out as a main sponsor of the National Gay Pilots Association conference. For those not in aviation, all pilots attend these conferences to network and the money from your ticket goes to their scholarship fund. The NGPA was not going to be able to hold the conference, but then American stepped in and not only covered their sponsorship but Delta’s as well.

It was very clear to me that my morals no longer aligned with the airline I grew up with and became an employee at. But one airline clearly stood out as the perfect fit for me. So a year ago I submitted my application, but it was hard work. I flew so much trying to get my hours to qualify for the interview that I damaged my sinus cavities and had to have surgery. Everyone who got a bloody post-op high FaceTime you’re welcome 🤣 (iykyk).

Ten years ago I took my first flight lesson with a dream to be an airline pilot. I am going to miss everyone I worked with. Thanks to my first ever sim partner Matt for filming one of my last takeoffs. In every ending, there is a new beginning, and this one just happens to be my retirement airline. Thank you American for believing in me and for the happiest day of my life. As we say at AA, Forever Forward. Ps. Ask me how I got free shoes. by @stephmiller11

This year I was also elected as the Captain Representative and then Chairman for my Union council in NYC. What I thought was my first meeting, ended up being a surprise by base management with the news that I had been selected as 1 of 4 pilots to receive the airlines highest award, Endeavor Elite, and would be traveling to US Bank Stadium for the ceremony! I was nominated for a flight full of little girls going to see Taylor Swift and one particular nervous flyer.

Being elected as the Chair to represent 781 pilots has been the biggest honor of my life. It’s one thing to be able to work hard to achieve something, but to be voted in and entrusted to represent all is extremely emotional. One of our aircraft’s tails was decapitated by a bigger plane and my campaign sticker was a tailless airplane with the slogan “no tail left behind”. I can give you one guess what plane my Endeavor Elite plaque ended up on 🤣 . Very fortunate to work for a company who is willing to recognize a union representative. Also, Donna wanted to make sure everyone saw her shoes. But stand by for bigger news! Thank you Endeavor Air aka Delta Connection for such a beautiful award. by @stephmiller11

I can’t wait to tell everyone next week why I have been on a social media hiatus; if you know don’t ruin it! But first a few other big things. I attended the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy in California and was honored to receive the Fitness Award. This was something I never expected, especially since I tend to surround myself with high performing athletes and fitness looks very different for me. It was a great reminder that fitness is not one size fits all and affirmed all the work I’ve put into many hotel gyms! Big thanks to all my gym friends for the tips and and my classmates for suffering through a speech I was unaware I had to give.

BUT the best part of the Academy was the lifelong friends I made and the endless adventures through Sonoma Valley together. Words can’t begin to describe my admiration for these human’s. I begrudgingly tracked across the country for this class and by the end I didn’t want to leave. I also had the chance to nominate my Fire Department for the Patriot Award for their support of the Guard and Reserve, and got to surprise them with it when I returned. As we say at the Academy, Altus Tendo! by @stephmiller11

Four stripes looks nice 😎

Fully signed off to finally say “this is your Captain speaking” . Even in the wake of everything that’s happened in the industry with the CRJ, I’ve never been more excited to lead my crew, captain this crazy piece of machinery, and get my passengers to their destinations safely. Will always remember the sacrifice AA 5342 gave trying to get their passengers safely to DCA and will honor them by never taking a moment of this responsibility for granted 🖤

Thank you to all my mentors and flight instructors who got me to this place. I still can’t believe 9 years since my first day of flight school later this is real. See you on a flight soon ✈️ by @stephmiller11

The anchor is emblematic of a Chief.

It is stability and security. It reminds Chiefs of the responsibility they have to keep those they serve safe from harm and to maintain the finest traditions of the Coast Guard.

Introducing your newest Chief Boatswain Mate 😁⚓️

As someone who came in under “don’t ask, don’t tell”, who had Chiefs as a Seaman Apprentice say women shouldn’t be Boatswain Mates, this is a pivotal moment in my Coast Guard career. This is for all those whose abilities have been challenged because of their gender or sexuality , may you always know there are no boundaries ⚓️ BMC Stephanie A Miller

Ps. Thank you to my dad Major Charles Miller USAF and brother-in-law Lt Col Jeffrey Cunningham ARMY for pinning me, Master Sergeant and my best friend @chase_lyle USAF for coming, along with my family and friends 💙 by @stephmiller11

A little late, but one year flying the CRJ in NYC!!

I’ve been blessed with having the most supportive family (currently full time babysitters of Mayday), the best communities in Nashville who told me to follow my dream and they’d be there when I get back @cyclehausnashville and @ashlandcityfire , the best of friends who pick up my texts when I have time to be in whatever city I’m in, and a partner who deals with me being a resident of another city and traveling for work half the week.

Thank you to all the Captains I’ve flown with who had the patience to teach me how to fly this thing and the flight attendants who brought so much cheer to my work days! Six months till Captain upgrade y’all. by @stephmiller11
