I have made many bodies of work over the years, and what they have in common is my addiction to thick, juicy acrylic paint. I am a material girl!

We visited the Giant Sequoias!! by @stevielovestudio

Visitor to the garden room this morning. We apologized but had to dispatch him/her. We lost a cat to a rattler a couple years ago. When we were building the house we relocated two rattlers to over a mile away. Our local ranger told us they’d establish a new territory if it was over a mile away. Now we have a dog and a cat and couldn’t catch this one☹️ by @stevielovestudio

New herb garden protected from the voracious squirrels by Bruce’s carpentry! So far there’s Italian parsley, Greek oregano, English thyme, and basil, with onion and garlic sets in the soil, and mustard greens and arugula sprouting from seeds in pots to be transplanted soon. Makes us happy! by @stevielovestudio

I am pleased to be one of 400+ artists participating in Mat Gleason's extravaganza, We're Very Well Read, It's Well Known, where each artist paints an image from their favorite book. I was inspired by reading Zorba the Greek while on a residency at Cycladic Arts on the island of Paros in the Aegean Sea last year. I had previously only known this story through the '60s film starring Anthony Quinn, but on Paros I read an English translation of the original novel by Nikos Kazantzakis. The story follows Zorba and the narrator who hires Zorba to work at his mine. Zorba represents instinct, passion, and spontaneity, while the narrator is bookish, intellectual, and cautious. When tragedy strikes the mine, Zorba refuses to be crushed by circumstances and teaches the narrator to take the long view and remain engaged with life. In the last scene, Zorba is dancing on the beach and says to the narrator, "C'mon boss, dance!" When the world looks chaotic and things are falling apart, you don't despair—you dance.

Two things informed this piece: 1) I have noticed unusual lighting in the sky here in the Mojave Desert. In most environments an orange glow occurs at the horizon fading upwards into blue sky, but here there is a band of blue at the horizon with a band of orange on top of the blue - the opposite of what you would expect. I’ve talked to people who have travelled in the Middle East and they tell me the same thing occurs there, so I am guessing it is a desert phenomenon. 2) Last month I was mesmerized by the solar eclipse photographed by the Artemis II crew. It appeared to be a black moon eclipsing the sun with some brilliant light escaping around the edges. Hence the inspiration for this black moon. Acrylic paint on vinyl mesh on canvas, sequined fabric, and rhinestones. 24 x 38.5 inches. by @stevielovestudio

The region surrounding our desert home is so beautiful I could gaze at these hillsides all day long. I am entranced by the way things fit together out here. by @stevielovestudio

At MOAH’s Sunset Soirée last Saturday I won a prize- I could choose from a half dozen books and of course I went straight to Osceola’s fabulous work. Lucky me!! by @stevielovestudio

I have work at Kristine Schomaker’s space. This piece was inspired by my stay in Greece appreciating all the draped gods and goddesses. The Brewery Artwalk open studios is today and tomorrow. Come by and wander. Always a good time! by @stevielovestudio
