We are honoured to invite you to our online seminar with Tracy Sidesinger, PsyD.

In both developmental psychology and psychoanalysis, emphasis on the mother has tended to be about scrutiny of the mother as an attachment object. Mother-infant observation and relational psychology have helped bring maternal subjectivity into view.
Our seminar will begin with a feminist-critical review of this history. Then, we will consider ways of listening for mothering identities and maternal subjectivity across the lifespan of adult clients. We will attune to clients’ histories with fertility, pregnancy, mothering, abortion, and changing bodies. While the main emphasis is on female-identified clients, listening for maternal subjectivity has implications across genders that will be useful for all clinicians.

About the speaker

Tracy Sidesinger, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist in New York. After earning her doctorate, she continued her training at the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association in NYC and The William Alanson White Institute. A mother herself, she uses personal experience alongside her work with patients to bring a feminist lens back to psychotherapy.

Merry Christmas from everyone at Stillpoint. 🎅🎁 by @stillpointhq

What did your #spotifywrapped say about you? 🎼🎸

Turns out that the #music you love may say more about you than you realised.

New #psychology research from the University of Toronto showed a correlation between #attachmentstyles and favourite song lyrics. It also found a change in top music songs overall from 1946 to 2015 moving from secure to insecure attachment themes in their #lyrics.

How does our mind protect us from emotional pain?

One of the many wonderful features of our mind is its built-in capacity to protect us from emotional pain.
We all have a series of internal mechanisms that get triggered in moments of distress: we deny, we repress, we try to undo things, etc. Join us to learn more about how our minds protect us from emotional pain and what this looks like in our daily lives.

This event with @marialagunalcsw is free for all members of the Stillpoint Community. (link in bio)

You probably know what your favourite love song is, but what does it say about your personal psychology? 🎵🎸🤘🎼🎵

We are lucky to be joined by special guest Dr. Ravin Alaei to tell us about his research that has revealed correlations between the lyrics of the songs we love and certain attachment styles.

Not only does Ravin's research correlate personal tastes in music to attachment in individuals, but it also identified larger social trends that may be illuminated by song lyrics. Looking at the lyrics of top songs in Western culture from 1946 to 2015 there appears to be a trend towards social disengagement rather than secure attachment. While your playlist may be more indicative about your relational style than you may be comfortable with, do those songs that rise to the top forty say something similar about culture as a whole?

Discuss this fascinating research with Ravin and our community This Week in Psychology! December 8, 2022 at 5:00pm
