St. Louis ArtWorks provides meaningful work experience through paid apprenticeships in the arts for youth in the STL metro area.

POSTS STORIES REELS

I truly believe many of our youth are judged by the negative actions of just a few individuals. We serve 160-200 teenagers annually. Fortunately, I can count on one hand—with two fingers left over—the negative experiences we’ve had. I have come to believe that youth genuinely want to impress adults, especially those in leadership positions. As adults, it's our responsibility to invest in our youth and highlight the positive qualities we find impressive. Jackie

Invest in our Youth!

Halloween brings a mix of excitement and fear, and our Makeup Artist apprentices are embracing that spirit. With the guidance of teaching artist Khadijah Amirah II, they have discovered how to use their faces as canvases for creativity. Halloween will be different from now on. by @stlartworks

Art Matters

I want to share a little story with you. This afternoon, a group of young men from the detention center came in to help with cleanup. I overheard one young man say, “Let’s get this done; this is my last day.” I smiled at him, and he politely asked, “If you don’t mind, may I ask what you all do here?” After I explained, he responded, “Wow, I’d like to come here.”

I talked to him about his interest in art, gave him a flyer, and we discussed how to apply and the interview process. He encouraged the other young men to start cleaning. Once they finished, he came to my office and said, “I’ll see you later.” I asked if he was going to apply, and he replied, “Yes, ma’am.” I said, “I’ll be looking for you.”

This young man was incredibly polite. It is youth like him who remind us why we are here and why we encourage everyone to invest in our young people. We need to believe in their potential. Access and opportunity truly do make a difference. We are St. Louis ArtWorks…and more!

Applications for the Spring 2027 session are now open. Please help spread the word! by @stlartworks

We would like to thank board member Amelia Bailey Counts and her colleagues from WiseF&I for volunteering to help clean our space yesterday. For those who may not know, St. Louis ArtWorks has a very small staff, consisting of only two full-time members. We do a lot with very little. Contrary to popular belief, we do not have maintenance or housekeeping personnel, so we are always thankful for any assistance we receive.

The team from WiseF&I arrived ready to work. They immediately asked, “What would you like us to do? How can we help?” and they got right to it. This type of support truly makes a difference. Thank you for making a difference, for dedicating your time and efforts, and, most importantly, for supporting our youth! by @stlartworks

Thanks for your support! 🥰🥳🥰

For the past three years, George and Stephanie Love have been incredible friends of St. Louis ArtWorks. Through their mentorship and support, they have provided unconditional scholarships to our youth. This summer alone, they awarded four of our apprentices $500 each. Today, we expressed our gratitude by sharing a small token of our appreciation. It truly means a lot to our youth when people show that they care. by @stlartworks

Yesterday, we welcomed our Tuesday/Thursday apprentices for our Fall 2026 program. I'm not sure if we were happier to see our returning apprentices or the first-time participants. Either way, they are already showing their creative skills and commitment to learning. Their disciplines include Makeup Artistry, led by the indomitable Khadijah Amirah II, and Art Essentials, under the tutelage of the energetic James Hendricks.
