🙏 Mark your calendars! Wednesday, December 2nd is the date when @castateparks is scheduled to vote on Frank McCourt's horrible LA ART gondola to Dodger Stadium. This is the gondola that would invade LA State Historic Park -- cut down 81 trees there, invade the entrance with a massive 98 ft tall, 200ft long station covered in advertising, and fly massive 5-ton cabins as low as 26 ft over the park, with one passing overhead as often as every 12 seconds! This is our chance to stop this ridiculous, greenwashing project for good! The agenda is now available for the meeting. It is Item #5: "LOS ANGELES STATE HISTORIC PARK ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT ADDENDUM AND GENERAL PLAN AMENDMENT." We need folks to show up in-person or via Zoom/phone for public comments. They also announced a new meeting location. It's Residence Inn by Marriott at LA Live (across the street from the previous location, JW Marriott at LA Live). For more information on how to participate in this meeting, including the link to the agenda and link to register for public comment via Zoom, visit our website at stopthegondola.org/public-comment. #StopTheGondola #greenwashing #environmentaljustice by @stopthegondola
Community offrenda at the LA State Historic Park Welcome Pavilion. It is open Sunday, 11/1 until 1:30pm, and Monday 11/2 times tbd. Wonderful example of CA State Parks land, especially our urban parks, being used to bring community together, unlike the gondola project that would tear up and close off a large chunk of our park for a billionaire’s project. #StopTheGondola by @stopthegondola
These sisters did not come to play. Families, park land, and Chinatown will be impacted by the billionaire giveaway that is the gondola. Sign the pledge in our bio and SAVE THE DATE for December 1st and 2nd to end this project once and for all. #stopthegondola #losangeles #la by @stopthegondola
Last week, community organizers from Chinatown and DTLA came together to stand up for their neighborhoods and say NO to the gondola project at LA State Historic Park. 💪🌳 The fight to protect our public land, our trees, and the places that make LA home is far from over, but we ALL have the power to shape what happens next, and we’re so thankful for those who are leading the charge. You can be part of this movement, too. Sign the pledge at the link in our bio to commit to showing up for the December 2 meeting and making your voice heard. We will stop the gondola when we show up together. #StopTheGondola #Chinatown #DTLA #LosAngeles #LA by @stopthegondola
Frank McCourt’s LA ART lobbyists make the ridiculous claim that the gondola to Dodger Stadium would help people access LA State Historic Park, especially residents in park-poor neighborhoods in South LA. Here, one of our volunteers explains to a group of teenagers on a tour organized by Community Nature Connection why this argument is nonsense. They are standing at the Metro Chinatown A Line Station. This is the rail station that is steps away from the entrance of LA State Historic Park that takes people to Union Station and beyond. There are DASH buses. There is a Metro bike share hub. We don't need a massive 98ft tall, 200ft long gondola station parked right at the entrance of our park and covered in corporate naming rights advertising. We don't need the greenwashing hype of a gondola that has no funding plan and would take away the use of our land and dozens of trees in our STATE HISTORIC PARK! This gondola is the worst idea ever and the lobbyists' attempts to justify it are frankly insulting! Thanks again to @communitynatureconnection for inviting us to be a part of their tour! #StopTheGondola by @stopthegondola
Frank McCourt, be gone! The billionaire who bankrupted the Dodgers wants to bankrupt Angelenos with his awful plan. We can’t let that happen. #stopthegondola #losangeles #la by @stopthegondola
Please save WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2ND on your calendar! The CA State Park and Recreation Commission changed their meeting date. AGAIN! Will the third time be the charm? For us, any day is a good day to stop Frank McCourt's horrible gondola project dead in its tracks. Please come and speak out to protect our LA State Historic Park! The physical meeting location was announced. It is the JW Marriott at LA Live, 900 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015. There will also be public comment via Zoom and phone, details TBD. The CA State Park and Recreation Commissioners will vote on whether to give up our precious park land and airspace to this ridiculous greenwashing gondola. The gondola is a tourism gimmick and a billionaire's HAREBRAINED idea of mass transit to a 50,000+ CAPACITY STADIUM. It's a taxpayer liability (McCourt isn't paying for it), and bait and switch scam with no funding plan. But most of all for the commissioners, this project has no business being in LA State Historic Park, and needs to be thrown in the garbage heap of bad ideas. Show up, be heard, and Stop The Gondola. For Good. We'll have updates leading up to the meeting. If you want personal reminders via email or text, feel free to DM us with your info. To subscribe to our email list, visit stopthegondola.org/subscribe. It's all hands on deck! Thx!!! 🙏✊👋💪 by @stopthegondola
Say NO to the gondola. Have your voice be heard. Mark your calendars for December 4th. We need people to show up to shut this down once and for all. More info to come. Link to the pledge in our bio. #losangeles #LA #stopthegondola by @stopthegondola
UPDATE: They changed the meeting date to Wednesday, December 2nd! FRIDAY DECEMBER 4TH at 9am is the next CA State Park and Recreation Commission meeting. Getting the Commissioners to vote NO at this meeting on the proposed LA ART gondola that would destroy LA State Historic Park is our best chance to defeat this horrible project once and for all. Your involvement is extremely vital right now. If you can, please save the date, and sign this pledge to protect our greenspace and our historic communities! The meeting will have public comment both in-person and via Zoom. We will share details on the meeting, including the physical location, when they become available. Typically CA State Parks announces the location at least 1 month in advance. The pledge card can be printed, signed, and dropped off to us at any of our tabling events (such as our weekly tabling at the LA River Farmers' Market on Thursdays). We also have an online version of the pledge card at bit.ly/STG-pledgecard or via the QR code. Also, please stay tuned for more ways to make your voice heard before this big meeting! 🙏 💪Thanks! #StopTheGondola by @stopthegondola
We don't have to worry about McCourt declaring bankruptcy on the gondola anymore because he donated the project to a brand new nonprofit and made them responsible for funding it. Classic billionaire move. But nothing else has changed. After 8 years, there is still no funding plan for this greenwashing gondola. This boondoggle should have been stopped years ago by people like @mayorofla , @karenbassla and @hildasolis . But spines are hard to grow when you're too busy putting up a phony list of community benefits. This has been a huge collective waste of our time, and is still being aided and abetted by @cagovernor @gavinnewsom as the project goes to the @castateparks s for approvals. Gondola supporters sometimes talk about @dodgers fans paying for the gondola through a surcharge on game tickets or parking. Doesn't that sound like the last thing Dodgers fans would want to do? Pay into McCourt's idiotic gondola project that would steal public land, wipe out hundreds of trees and invade the neighborhoods and parks around Dodger Stadium -- all to benefit parking lot Frank's development dreams? #StopTheGondola by @stopthegondola
Why would the gondola be bad for LA? Here are three reasons... The proposed gondola would cut down trees, likely require taxpayer money, and pose a financial risk to the city considering billionaire Frank McCourt bankrupted the LA Dodgers. LA doesn't need more of that. There is a literal mini-forest at the entrance of LA State Historic Park -- steps away from the Metro A Line station -- that would be ripped out for the gondola. We don't need empty promises about the developer replacing trees 4 to 1. There's been no plan for the types of trees that would be planted or where they would all go, except a few images showing that replacement trees would be much much smaller, even if you wait 10 or 15 years for them to grow. #StopTheGondola by @stopthegondola
Dodgers game this Saturday, 1pm is expected to be 100 degrees at start time. Would it be worse sitting under the blazing sun, or stuck in a gondola cabin with no operate windows and inadequate or non-existent "air conditioning"? LA ART gondola lobbyists pretend that air conditioning in gondolas is already a solved problem, but it's complete BS. And public transit gondolas, which is what they are claiming the LAART would be because it they want to run it 18 hours per day every day, are an even tougher challenge. There are ZERO public transit gondolas in the world that have actual A/C. What McCourt wants is to get this gondola approved to unlock development rights on his land around Dodger Stadium. Nevermind any of the logistics or feasibility of the actual project. Who cares if it ever gets built or actually works. There are 3 gondola systems in the world that have ever had some sort of air conditioning in the cabins: Wynn Skycab in China (Macau), Horto in Brazil, and Muttersbergbahn in Austria. They are all tourist gondolas that run only for up to 8.5 hours per day. One only runs after 4pm. Wynn Skycab has a/c, but only operates 6 to 8 hours per day, 4pm-10pm or 12 pm): https://www.wynnresortsmacau.com/en/wynn-palace/experiences/entertainment/sky-cab --People/reviewers still say it is hot. --6 people per cabin --They adapted 8 passenger cabins to 6-passenger with a/c and a/v equipment. https://liftblog.com/tag/wynn-palace-skycab/ "CWA adapted standard 8-passenger Omega cabins into 6-passenger VIP versions with custom audio-visual systems and air conditioning. " So that's a 25% reduction in capacity! Horto in Brazil is a tourist gondola. Runs Wednesday through Sunday, only 8.5 hrs per day, 8am-4:30pm. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Many Google reviews saying it's still hot inside and that they don't turn on the air conditioning until after 11am. The Muttersbergbahn gondola in Austria has experimented with an "ice cabin" during summer months, but their standard cabins don't have air conditioning, just ventilation. The system also is 4000+ ft above sea level. Natural cooling at higher elevation. Operates only 8 hrs per day, 9am-5pm. #StopTheGondola by @stopthegondola
