During these difficult times in the Southwest our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the flooding. It is uplifting to see so many people from our community volunteering and making donations. If you are interested in making a donation please check out the Community Foundation Serving Southwest Colorado. The Community Foundation Serving Southwest Colorado has opened the La Plata Community Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) to assist residents and communities across La Plata County affected by this week’s flooding. Heavy rainfall has caused flooding and debris flows throughout the county, prompting evacuations, shelter-in-place orders, and the closure of county roads. Online donations can be made through the Community Foundation’s website, swcommunityfoundation.org. by @straterhotel

As part of preserving and honoring the history of the Strater Hotel the Room Dedication Program was created and will continue until all 88 rooms have a special dedication. Did you know that room 305 is dedicated to the Diamond Belle Saloon Girls? In March 1957, another Durango legend was born: the Diamond Belle Saloon Girl. Dressed in fishnets and feathers, she embodied charm, grace, and spirited fun. Over the decades, her style evolved while retaining its Victorian flair. The @diamondbellesaloon evokes a bygone era. Staff costumes and ragtime piano entertainment recreate the spirit of the Old West, and the saloon girls are among the most photographed figures in Durango. by @straterhotel
